Legendary ’90s hip-hop duo DEUX is set to release a new single featuring the voice of late member Kim Sung Jae, restored through artificial intelligence (AI).
Today, on November 19, Wide Company, the entertainment agency led by DEUX member Lee Hyun Do, announced that the duo’s new track, "Rise," part of their fourth full-length album project, will be released on November 27.
This marks DEUX’s first new song in 28 years since their 1997 best-of album 'Love, Fear.'
DEUX debuted in 1993 and became famous for hits like "Look Back at Me" and "In the Summer." The duo disbanded in 1995, the same year Kim Sung Jae passed away.
For this release, AI technology was used to restore Kim Sung Jae’s voice. DEUX partnered with voice AI specialist company Sorisori AI, which developed an engine to replicate the tone and texture of his voice.
The new track falls under the New Jack Swing genre—a fusion of hip-hop and R&B—and will be accompanied by a music video created with AI video studio The Ape Squad.
On the day of the release, a special listening event titled 'The Sound Stages with KT' will be held at KT Square in Gwanghwamun and the Sejong Center Courtyard.
