Ji Chang Wook has asked audiences to look forward to the upcoming Korea-Japan co-production drama, 'Merry Berry Love' (working title), in which he stars alongside Japanese actress Imada Mio.
On November 13, the Disney+ Original Preview 2025 event was held at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel.
At the event, Disney+ introduced 'Merry Berry Love,' the first Korean-Japanese co-produced original series set to premiere next year. The romantic comedy follows Korean designer Yoo Bin (played by Ji Chang Wook), who, after experiencing a painful career setback, accidentally meets Japanese strawberry farmer Karin (portrayed by Mio Imada) on a remote Japanese island. A small misunderstanding leads to a series of humorous and chaotic romantic encounters.
On his decision to join the project, Ji Chang Wook said, “I found the character setting really interesting. I’ve also always wanted to work in Japan, and when I received the offer for 'Merry Berry Love,' I was very excited—it seemed like a fun collaboration could happen.”
He added, “It’s the first Korea-Japan co-produced romantic comedy (from Disney). I’ll start filming this Sunday, and I’m really looking forward to it. The story contains humanity and love. It will also be interesting to see how the two characters overcome cultural barriers.”
Regarding language differences between the characters, Ji Chang Wook said, “My character doesn’t speak Japanese at first, so even from the first meeting, things don’t go smoothly. It will be fun to watch the chaotic moments. Over time, you’ll see the characters gradually learning to communicate with each other. Please look forward to that.”
Ji Chang Wook also shared that he met Mio Imada for the first time through this project, saying, “I think her character fits perfectly with mine.” He added, “The characters changed a lot during production, and the script was revised multiple times. It was nice to see my character gradually reflect Mio’s personality. Meeting her for the first time, I felt she was the most suitable person for 'Merry Berry Love'.”
Mio Imada commented on working with Ji Chang Wook: “He’s older than me, so he has a supportive presence that guides me. I think I’ll be able to rely on him during filming.”
Meanwhile, at the Disney+ Original Preview 2025 event, Disney+ introduced APAC (Asia-Pacific) and global original content set to premiere at the end of this year and next year. Upcoming series include 'Made in Korea' Seasons 1 and 2, 'A Shop for Killers 2,' 'Delusion' (working title), 'Gold Land,' 'The Remarried Empress,' 'Fate War 49,' 'Are You Sure?!', and '21st Century Wife of the Grand Prince,' among others.
