Comedian Yang Se Chan has opened up about his long-term struggle with thyroid cancer.
On October 15, the KBS2TV program ‘Problem Child in House’ shared that Park Si Eun and Jin Tae Hyun would appear as guests, and Yang Se Chan would share a heartfelt moment of empathy with Jin Tae Hyun, who also battled thyroid cancer.
When Jin Tae Hyun said, “I’ve completely recovered to the point where I no longer need medication,” Yang Se Chan responded, “I’m still taking medicine,” revealing his continued treatment.
Yang Se Chan recalled, “I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer 12 years ago. A group of comedians went together for a health checkup, and that’s when it was discovered. I was rehearsing for ‘Comedy Big League’ when I got the call.”
He continued, “There wasn’t even time to feel sad. My colleagues tried to cheer me up, jokingly saying, ‘He’s got cancer. Cancer~ cancer~,’ which actually comforted me in their own way.”

Yang Se Chan pointed to fatigue as one of the signs of thyroid cancer.
When Jin Tae Hyun shared, “After surgery, the fatigue disappeared. For three to four years, I used to feel exhausted every afternoon,” Yang Se Chan agreed, saying, “That’s true. I once slept for ten straight hours.”
He added, “After sleeping for ten hours, I went to work with Lee Yong Jin, but I couldn’t stop yawning. That was my body sending me a signal.”
Jin Tae Hyun then said, “After the surgery, my lifestyle completely changed. I started eating healthy. Isn’t that the same for you?” to which Yang Se Chan replied humorously, “I did eat healthy for about six months, but then one day, I found myself eating jjamppong rice again,” bringing laughter to the set.
