Kang Kyun Sung, a member of the ballad group Noel, has spoken out about false rumors and revealed the unexpected backstory behind his public commitment to premarital chastity.
In a recent interview on the YouTube channel “Insaeng Worship,” uploaded on October 10 under the title “We didn’t expect him to be this honest | Kang Kyun Sung (Noel)”, the singer shared that his decision to pledge chastity before marriage was not entirely voluntary.
“The whole ‘chastity ministry’ wasn’t something I planned,” Kang said. “Back in August 2011, comedian Lee Seong Mi suggested during a monthly celebrity prayer meeting that we try a chastity pledge ceremony. She even acknowledged that most of us hadn’t kept such promises before, but wanted us to reflect on the importance of it.”
According to Kang, participants were supposed to be randomly selected to take part in the ceremony. However, when he was about to draw lots, Lee Seong Mi simply said, “You just do it,” prompting him to go along with it. “That’s how it happened. It wasn’t even my intention,” he confessed.

Following the public revelation of his chastity vow, Kang became the target of malicious and unfounded rumors.
“There was a post in an online forum that said someone with the initials ‘KKS from the group ‘NE’ went to a room salon, behaved horribly, and even had a sexual encounter with someone working there,” Kang revealed. “They described the scene in such detailed, graphic language—it made my hands tremble just reading it.”
Kang stressed that he had never been to such places nor engaged in any such behavior, and yet the anonymous post spread quickly among fans and peers. Although the media refrained from publishing articles due to legal liability, the implications were clear.
“Who else is in a group with the initials ‘NE’? It’s obviously Noel,” Kang said. “And who else has the initials ‘KKS’? There’s no one else. I was furious.”
Despite the damaging nature of the rumors, Kang Kyun Sung chose not to pursue legal action but expressed deep frustration at how baseless accusations could circulate and impact his reputation without evidence or consequence.
