Actress Goo Hye Sun has stepped in front of the camera as the model for her latest invention, the “flat hair roll,” which she personally developed.
On October 8, Goo Hye Sun shared a photo on social media with the caption, “Hair Roll Model KOOROLL♥.” In the photo, she lies on a bed posing with the expandable flat hair roll she designed, rather than wearing it on her head. Her flawless skin and doll-like beauty instantly capture attention.
In a recent interview with Inventive Ideas_Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA), Goo Hye Sun shared the inspiration behind her flat hair roll. She explained, “I kept noticing my friends going around with hair rolls in their hair. I thought, ‘Even if it doesn’t work, why don’t we try sticking it on a phone case?’ That’s how it started.”

She continued, “When wearing hair rolls, they often stick to clothes. At celebrity premieres, you sometimes see hair rolls attached to outfits by mistake. I thought, what if it could be folded and attached instead?” Goo Hye Sun added, smiling, “It’s more of a daily-life discovery than a grand invention. It would be fun to tell a baby using my hair roll when I’m a grandmother, ‘I was the one who discovered this.’”
Currently, Goo Hye Sun is pursuing a Master’s degree in Engineering at KAIST’s Graduate Program in Science Journalism. In March, she obtained a patent for the flat hair roll she developed alongside a KAIST professor. Last month, she also made headlines by announcing a fresh start as the CEO of a startup company.
