Former TEEN TOP member C.A.P, born in 1992, has sparked controversy after revealing the darker side of the K-pop idol industry during a recent appearance on an online talk channel.
C.A.P, who debuted in 2010 as part of the popular boy group TEEN TOP, openly criticized the structural issues that young idols face under long-term exclusive contracts. “During the seven-year contract period with their agencies, idols are often restricted from engaging in any outside work, even when they have no income,” he said. “As a result, many turn to nightlife establishments or even host bars to make ends meet.”
He went on to suggest a potential solution, calling for the introduction of a monthly salary system for idols, similar to that of regular office workers. “If agencies adopted a salaried model, it would help ensure financial stability and reduce the pressure idols face during their early careers,” C.A.P added.
C.A.P rose to fame with TEEN TOP, a group known for its sophisticated performances and hit songs such as “No More Perfume on You,” “I’m Gonna Crazy,” and “Rocking.” The group became one of the defining boy bands of the early 2010s, earning praise for their polished choreography and high-quality music production.
Renowned for his charismatic stage presence and distinctive personality, C.A.P left a lasting impression during his time with TEEN TOP. He recently signed an exclusive contract with MODEN BERRY KOREA, signaling a new phase in his career as he continues to expand his activities beyond music.
