Nana questioned by police after being countersued by her own home intruder

Singer and actress Nana has undergone police questioning after being countersued by a man who allegedly broke into her home and assaulted her family.

According to MyDaily on January 9, Nana was questioned as a defendant on January 8 for approximately one hour and 30 minutes at the Guri Police Station in Gyeonggi Province.

On the same day, Nana’s agency SUBLIME stated, “This case involves an inhumane act that caused Nana and her family severe psychological distress. As the investigation is currently ongoing, we ask for your understanding that we cannot disclose further details.”

Previously, on January 2, police revealed that a man in his 30s, identified as A, who was arrested and detained on charges of aggravated robbery resulting in injury, had recently filed a countersuit against Nana. The suspect had allegedly broken into the home of Nana and her mother in Guri, Gyeonggi Province last November while armed with a weapon, assaulted Nana’s mother, and demanded money.

According to investigators, after A discovered Nana’s mother inside the house, he attacked her. Nana, who woke up after hearing her mother’s screams, struggled with the suspect alongside her mother and managed to subdue him before reporting the incident to the police. During the altercation, A sustained a laceration to his jaw from the weapon. Police determined that the injuries inflicted by Nana and her mother constituted self-defense and did not book them on charges.

However, despite this conclusion, A later filed a countersuit accusing Nana of attempted murder and aggravated assault, drawing widespread public outrage over what many have described as an audacious and unethical move by the suspect.

Attorney Park Ji Hoon commented, “Unlike the United States, South Korea has a relatively narrow scope for recognizing self-defense, which appears to have been exploited in this case. The suspect’s actions will not work in his favor at trial and may instead become grounds for a heavier sentence. Nana will not be punished, as her actions clearly fall under legitimate self-defense.”

Meanwhile, the First Criminal Division of the Uijeongbu District Court’s Namyangju Branch is scheduled to hold the first trial for A on January 20 on charges of robbery resulting in bodily injury.
