There’s always those dramas that you can’t help but return back too whether it’s because the story is so good or just the on-screen chemistry has you hooked. Dramas can become a tool to heal you on your worst days, making you laugh and throwing you into a world of fantasy where you get a moment to forget the reality that you’re living in. And with the vast amount of dramas that have aired, here are remakes viewers would love to have in 2026!
1. ‘Star In My Heart’
Noted as being one of the early works associated with creating, what is now known as the HAllyu Wave, ‘Star In My Heart’ a 16 episode series that aired back in 1997 centered around the story of an impoverished young, but talented girl and a top celebrity who end up falling in love with each other. The classic poor girl and rich star is a trope that we can’t help but fall in love with every time and with the immense global popularity that K-pop and K-dramas have earned, it’d be interesting to see the remake of this in 2026.
2. ‘Boys Over Flower’
The world of the elite is cutthroat, everyone’s out to outdo one another and so it’s difficult to make friendships that last and don’t even get us started on romance. Romance created for the sake of expanding business partnerships. Yet ‘Boys Over Flowers’ gave us the hope that a Cinderella-romance is possible in your life too. As Geum Jan Di ends up attending the most prestigious high school in the nation. However, through a series of events she becomes the main target for the school’s most popular and wealthiest boy Gu Jun Pyo. Their rivalry turns into a yearning romance. For most ‘Boys Over Flowers’ became the first drama that truly got people interested into Hallyu and so it only makes sense that it be made into a remake once more!
3. ‘Coffee Prince’
Desperate times calls for desperate measures and Go Eun Chan is wiling to do whatever she can, if that means receiving a paycheck. This includes disguising herself as a boy at a local coffee shop as their policy is that only males are allowed to be employed. We don’t really get to see many dramas like this today, so in a day and age where South Korea is a bit more accepting of all different kinds of identities, it’d be interesting to see how viewers would react towards a remake of it.
4. ‘Stairway to Heaven'
Where did all the makjangs go? That was peak drama core during the early 2000s and you couldn’t help but fall into the thrill of the unexpected twists and turns in the plot. ‘Stairway to Heaven’ despite how tragic of a love story it is, hooked viewers with the melodramatic moments. As childhood friends make their journey to become lovers, only to be torn apart by family misfortune, jealously and tragedy.
5. ‘High Kick Through the Roof’
Hilarious to a fault, each relationship, each character has their own spotlight in this series and that’s what made it so lovable for viewers. It’s a shame that we don’t really get these kind of sitcoms airing nowadays because in particular the ‘High Kick Through the Roof’ series was a great jumpstart and gateway for newbie actors to gain momentum in their acting career. For many big stars such as Yoon Shi Yoon, Jung Il Woo, Park Min Young, Hwang Jung Eum, Shin Se Kyung all came from this series.
6. ‘Rainbow Romance’
There’s something so tender about neighbors who live across from each other, only to become the bestest of friends, and from there relationships bloom. And ‘Rainbow Romance’ was a beloved series because it was a series that felt more realistic to what you would experience in every day life. There wasn’t any flashy turning points in this series, no tragic accidents that lead to finding eternal love. It was just about a group of college students trying to make their way through life.
7. ‘Flower Boy Ramen Shop’
Flower boys anything took over the early 2000s, so what happened? Where did this idea of pretty boy groups go? Because with 2026 around the corner you know we’re going to need it back. The sass and the hilarious banter between Cha Chi Soo and Yang Eun Bi needs to be re-created to reflect the banter that we see in lots of dramas today. Can you imagine just how much sassier Cha Chi Soo would be now than before.
8. ‘Reply 1997’
I mean they’ve had their ten year anniversary reunion, and as both seasons of the ‘Reply’ series earned so much love, it’d be great to see one that focuses on the time era of the early 2000s. Especially focusing on second generation idol groups like TVXQ, Super Junior, and the fandoms during that time. It’d be truly interesting to be able to see the nostalgia that is brought forth on screen.
9. ‘You’re Beautiful’
We got ‘Lovely Runner’ and we now have ‘Idol I’ but before both these series, ‘You’re Beautiful’ took the drama scene by storm. As a young girl ends up having to fill in for her twin brother as part of an idol group. While we’re on this bandwagon of drama characters being idols, why not just go ahead and recreate this series as a remake?
10. ‘Cinderella and the Four Knights’
Classic Cinderella story, but as a young girl finds herself working for four brothers, all who have to come to terms with their own past of heartbreak, love, and familial relationships. It’d be interesting to see how this adaption would work in today’s time. As many dramas are now getting rid of that love triangle trope for it doesn’t appeal too much to viewers, to be able to see this series be re-created would an interesting take indeed. Would they get rid of the love triangles or would it still remain? That’s the question.
