Sunye, former member of Wonder Girls, addressed the backlash after posting and later deleting a tribute to the late American conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
On September 17, she explained on Instagram, “As a mother, I was deeply moved by the grieving wife’s plea after her husband’s tragic shooting, so I shared a tribute. Then strangers came to my space, cursing me and bringing up politics and even Wonder Girls. Why go that far?” She added, “A life has been lost. Are you really smiling, saying ‘it serves him right’?”
Sunye stressed that her post was not about politics or religion, but a human response to tragedy, asking people to refrain from disrespectful attacks.
Previously, on September 16, she shared and deleted a video and Bible verses mourning Kirk, who was shot dead during a lecture in Utah on September 10.
Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA and a supporter of Donald Trump, was a controversial figure for his conservative stances on guns, abortion, and LGBTQ rights.
