SBS has officially confirmed that its new Friday-Saturday drama, ‘Manager Kim’ (written by Nam Dae Jung, directed by Lee Seung Young, planned and produced by Studio S, and produced in collaboration with Fantagio), will air in 2026. The drama tells the story of a seemingly ordinary family man, 'Manager Kim,' who risks everything to save his beloved daughter by revealing a secret he must never disclose.
The drama is based on the popular webtoon ‘Manager Kim’, a spin-off set in the shared universe of Park Tae Joon’s hit comics, including 'Lookism,' 'Viral Hit,' and 'My Life as a Loser.' The webtoon immediately topped Naver Webtoon’s Tuesday rankings upon its release, reflecting its widespread popularity. Nam Dae Jung, known for his ability to blend heartfelt storytelling with humor in films such as 'The Last Ride' and 'Love Reset,' penned the script. Lee Seung Young, celebrated for his nuanced direction in 'Wonderful World,' 'Tracer,' and 'Voice 2,' will bring his signature visual and emotional sensibilities to the series.
In addition, SBS has officially confirmed the casting of So Ji Sub in the lead role. So will portray 'Manager Kim,' a seemingly ordinary employee at a small savings bank who is secretly a former North-South special agent. As 'Manager Kim,' he is a highly skilled operative dispatched on countless covert missions, listed as North Korea’s top-priority target, and a ticking time bomb whose existence must remain hidden in South Korea.
So Ji Sub, who recently impressed audiences with his action roles in Netflix’s 'Mercy for None,' is set to showcase both his noir charm and tender fatherly side in 'Manager Kim,' promising another milestone performance in his career.
The production team commented, “With a solid source material and So Ji Sub’s dynamic portrayal of the extraordinary father, 'Manager Kim' is poised to become a ‘mature blockbuster’ that will captivate audiences in 2026. We ask viewers to look forward to So Ji Sub’s remarkable performance in this upcoming drama.”
‘Manager Kim’ is scheduled to air on SBS in 2026.
