Singer Moon Won, fiancé of Koyote’s Shinji, has opened up about his struggles and regrets following recent controversy.
On September 25, the YouTube channel How About Shinji?!? released a video titled 'I Want to Share What I Haven’t Been Able to Say.' The video showed Shinji and her fiancé organizing their newlywed home while sharing affectionate moments. Observing Moon Won’s brighter demeanor, the production team remarked, “It’s been a long time since you’ve looked this cheerful.”
In response, Moon Won confessed, “I experienced social anxiety for the first time and avoided people a lot. Shinji really helped me through it, comforting me even though she must have been struggling herself. I’m very grateful.”
Moon Won also addressed the so-called “title controversy.” In a previously released meeting video with Koyote members Kim Jong Min and Bbaekga, he was criticized for using honorifics when referring to his ex-wife but calling his fiancée Shinji, who is seven years older, “this friend.”
Reflecting on the incident, he admitted, “I should have prepared more carefully since I was meeting very respected people. Instead, I relied only on my notes, which was immature. I’ve learned a lot since then.” Shinji, recalling the moment, simply laughed and said, “Looking back, it’s funny now.”
Moon Won grew emotional when speaking about Shinji having to perform on stage amid the controversy. Fighting back tears, he said, “My wife must have had such a hard time. I didn’t even know she was taking medication to stay calm until I saw the video later. I felt so sorry. When I think back to that time, I feel an overwhelming sense of guilt.” Shinji reassured him, saying, “I didn’t want you to worry. I just needed to calm myself down. It’s okay.”
Moon Won added, “If I hadn’t made that mistake, my wife who was already going through a difficult time would not have suffered as much. Now I always make sure she takes her vitamins every morning and remind her, ‘Let’s stay healthy today.’ I want to take care of her as much as I can. But because of my actions, I also feel I caused harm to her agency and colleagues.”
He continued, “Shinji never complained, only supported me and said it was okay. But in reality, she must have been the one hurting the most. That is why I am trying even harder now, making sure she does not have to do anything unnecessary. I am not the most delicate person, but I like taking care of her.”
Shinji, smiling, responded, “He has always been good to me, but he keeps getting even better. It is amazing. I can handle the delicate part.” She added, “After the meeting video was released, I thought I could go out comfortably again, but instead, we hid even more. Still, it is something we just have to accept.”
Meanwhile, Shinji is set to marry her fiancé, singer Moon Won, who is seven years younger, next year. However, after the YouTube video of their meeting with Kim Jong Min and Bbaekga was uploaded in July, it was revealed that Moon Won is divorced and has a daughter. This sparked negative speculation and public scrutiny of his private life.
Addressing the rumors, Shinji stated, “Together with my agency, I thoroughly checked all concerns and confirmed that the suspicions were untrue. I fully understand the concerns people expressed, and I promise to reflect and be more careful moving forward.”
