Veteran comedian Jeon Yu Seong died at 9:05 p.m. Tuesday at Jeonbuk National University Hospital, his family and the Korea Broadcasting Comedians Association said. He was 76.
The association said Jeon passed away with his only daughter at his side. Chairman Kim Hak Rae noted funeral arrangements are being discussed, with the family considering moving the service to Seoul for accessibility.
Jeon, who underwent treatment for pneumothorax in July and later suffered breathing difficulties, remained humorous even in his final days, joking with visitors despite his critical condition.
A pioneering figure in Korean comedy, Jeon helped popularize the term “gagman” in broadcasting and played a key role in launching 'Gag Concert,' which transformed the country’s comedy scene.
