In just over a year since her solo debut, Yves has captivated audiences with a string of hits like “LOOP,” “Dim,” and “Viola.”
She's quickly solidified her presence in the music scene, following up her early success with the infectious track “White Cat.” Her latest mini-album, ‘Soft Error,’ proves her versatility with standout collaborations: “Soap” featuring PinkPantheress and “Aibo” with Bratty. In a very short time, Yves has already built a strong discography filled with exceptional tracks.
In the same year as her solo debut, Yves launched her first-ever solo tour, ‘Apple Cinnamon Crunch,’ which began in Europe, continued in North America, and is now making its way to Australia and Asia.
A few hours before her first solo concert in Manila, allkpop had the opportunity to speak with the artist about her 2025 so far and her latest mini-album.
allkpop: How have the first months of 2025 unfolded for you, and what are your thoughts on the outcome of your latest EP, ‘Soft Error’?
Yves: For the first half of the year, it was all about the tour. Now that it's almost done, I'll be going to work on new music, probably a new album. Getting to do a tour meant seeing and meeting so many fans, and for me, that's the most memorable part. While working on and releasing albums like ‘Soft Error’ were certainly precious and fun, the moments I get to meet my fans in person while touring are definitely the happiest.
allkpop: Can you tell us more about ‘Soft Error’? How does it differ from your previous EPs, and what message does it convey?
Yves: My first mini-albums were more about expressing just how happy I was because I was able to start as a solo artist. Now, my current mini-album is about expressing the hardships of going through the whole process. The album honestly unravels the difficulties I've experienced while pursuing my solo career, so you can hear my story more directly. It’s also an album that takes on a variety of challenges and is a bolder attempt to make more music.
allkpop: How did your collaborations with PinkPantheress and Bratty come about?
Yves: My collaborations came about because of my fans. For instance, I was able to work with PinkPantheress because of them. The initial music I received was completely different from what was eventually released. Both PinkPantheress and Bratty presented me with works and melodies that were totally different from the melody I had in mind. So, while making the music, I learned a lot and also challenged myself to create that type of music. It was a very meaningful experience.

allkpop: You've been touring as a solo artist for a while now. How has that experience been, and how do you compare your very first solo performances to where you are today?
Yves: When I first started performing as a solo artist, I felt burdened. I felt like I had to fill the stage on my own, unlike when I was with my groupmates, so I couldn't really enjoy it. That’s why my first solo performance was a little lacking. But now that I've been doing it for a while, I'm able to enjoy it with all the fans. I also feel like I perform with more ease now instead of feeling pressure.
allkpop: Which song from your discography are you most excited to perform live, and which one do you find the most challenging to deliver?
Yves: The song I'm most excited about and that's also the most difficult to perform is the same. It's something I haven't released or performed anywhere else except for this tour. The song is “Ex Machina.” I'm a little nervous about how the fans will react, but I'm also very excited because it's the first song that I actually participated in the composition of.

allkpop: In our last interview, you mentioned working on your confidence. How would you describe your growth as an artist since then?
Yves: Since I talked about confidence before, now, I'm in the process of seriously considering the direction I should take as an artist. What path should I take? In terms of my color, I think I'm leaning towards a more electronic sound and feel. I hope that when you listen to my music, you'll feel a bit electrified, as if you're being captivated by it. I am curious to see how people will respond to that.
allkpop: Finally, please share a message with allkpop readers and your fans.
Yves: First, I am always thankful for all the support from my fans. I know that some of my biggest fan bases are here in the Philippines, and I feel a bit sorry that I haven't been able to visit. I hope you were able to enjoy the show. Also, starting with this tour, I will be seeing you more often, so please don't be disappointed. I hope you'll think about seeing me often and live happily!
