G-Dragon, member of the group Big Bang (real name Kwon Ji Yong), revealed his sensitive side regarding the nicknames he had during his early debut.
On September 30 KST, the YouTube channel Hana TV uploaded a video titled, “What Was My Concern? G-DRAGON Talks with Kang Ho Dong After 16 Years l Knee-Drop Doctor EP.2.”
In the video, G-Dragon explained, “At first, I debuted with someone else’s song and wasn’t well-known. But when my self-composed song 'Lies' became a mega-hit, Hyun Seok, the CEO at the time, started laughing.”
He added, “It was my song originally, but the team performed it. I had to make them understand my story while worrying it might not work out. After the hit, Hyun Seok said, ‘Bring your songs here. This is good, this is good, this is good,’ and picked freely.”
G-Dragon also said, “If you look at our member Daesung, you’ll see we had to be skillful. At that time, our team broke the typical idol mold and received criticism, but we gained an image as a self-producing, talented group.”
When host Kang Ho Dong asked if the members became more obedient after the success of “Lies,” G-Dragon reflected, “We debuted through a documentary. Sometimes I watch old footage, and I feel unfamiliar with myself. Back then, fans thought I was prickly and sensitive, calling me ‘Kwon Sapo’ or ‘Sapo Ji Yong.’”
When Kang Ho Dong asked about other nicknames, he laughed and said, “There was also ‘Kwon Ji X.’”
Regarding his unique fashion, G-Dragon stated, “My style is something only Kwon Ji Yong can pull off. Don’t copy it. Honestly, even I think my fashion is over the top. Even now, I spend days adjusting nail art on all ten fingers. I do it because I enjoy it.”
