Lee Kyung Kyu, who was previously embroiled in a drugged driving controversy, is making a fast return to television with “My Turn”, an upcoming SBS variety show.
Set to premiere on August 7, My Turn is described as the first fake reality show on a major Korean broadcast network. The show blends fictional elements with the real ambitions of its cast members, leaving viewers to guess what’s real and what’s staged. The unique storytelling format has already sparked significant anticipation among viewers.
Joining Lee Kyung Kyu in the cast are Tak Jae Hoon, Choo Sung Hoon, Lee Soo Ji, Kim Won Hoon, Park Ji Hyun, and Nam Yoon Soo. Each participant will take part in a “Trot Idol Project,” using the format as a cover to pursue their own goals. Lee Kyung Kyu, in particular, will appear as the producer of the group, aiming for a grand comeback and a shot at a major entertainment award.
Lee’s recent controversy stems from an incident in June, where he drove another person’s car while under the influence of prescribed medication. Although he tested negative for alcohol, a rapid drug test showed a positive result. His agency later explained that he had been battling panic disorder for over a decade and had taken legally prescribed medication the night before due to worsening symptoms.
They added that Lee was not in good condition the following day and had driven himself to the hospital, mistakenly taking a car identical to his own. The incident led to a temporary police investigation under the Road Traffic Act, but Lee was not detained.
Afterward, Lee commented on the situation via his YouTube channel God Kyung Kyu, saying, “The last thing you should worry about in this world is a celebrity. But if you’re going to worry anyway, please subscribe. Subscriptions are the best cure for panic disorder.”
