A heartwarming reunion is on the horizon as the cast of the beloved film 'Sunny' comes together in a brand-new MBC variety show titled 'I'm Sunny Thank You,' premiering on July 5 at 8:40 PM KST.
The program promises an emotional journey as the stars rediscover their friendship through travel and reflection, offering viewers a glimpse into untold behind-the-scenes stories from the film’s production 14 years ago.
In the first episode, the original cast members including Kang So Ra, Park Jin Joo, Nam Bo Ra, Shim Eun Kyung, Kim Bo Mi, and Kim Min Young gather for a Sunny alumni reunion. The cast will share never-before-heard memories and anecdotes from the filming days, rekindling the camaraderie that made the movie so unforgettable.
Kang So Ra reveals a surprising fact, saying that at the time of filming, Shim Eun Kyung was the only minor, while the rest of the cast were in their early twenties. She adds with a laugh that her convincing portrayal of a teenager has led some to mistakenly believe she started her career as a child actress. Kang also recalls the joyful atmosphere on set, explaining that the director would often say "Let's have fun" instead of the usual cue, creating a relaxed and lively environment.
The show also unveils lesser-known casting stories behind the film’s iconic roles. Nam Bo Ra shares that she was drawn to So Ra’s character and even approached the director to express her interest, revealing a bold attempt to land the role. Park Jin Joo also confesses that she auditioned with lines from the character Woo Hee, highlighting her strong desire to play the part.
