Actress Lee Min Jung recently opened up about her thoughts on the tipping culture in the United States.
In a new video titled “Very Informative. What’s Going on in the U.S. Lately, Explained by Lee Min Jung’s Friend Who Survived 18 Years in America – LA Series Part 2” posted on her YouTube channel Lee Min Jung MJ, she shared her candid experience with tipping while traveling in the U.S.
“I don’t live in the States, and I only visit maybe once a year for something like a summer camp. So I still find tipping here a bit confusing,” she said.
She recalled a recent moment: “I went through a Starbucks drive-thru, and there was a tipping option. But I thought, ‘Why? I picked up the drink myself.’ I honestly didn’t know what to do.”
Her friend, who lives in the U.S., replied, “From the worker’s perspective, of course they’d want a tip. But if you’re in a good mood, sometimes you just want to leave one—even at a drive-thru. You can do it freely.”
Lee agreed, saying, “I guess with kiosks, you can be a bit more relaxed.”
She then added with a laugh, “Even at just slightly upscale restaurants, tipping options start at 20%, 22%, even 25%. And if someone happens to recognize my husband, then I feel like I can’t choose the lowest option—I just go for the middle.”
Lee Min Jung married actor Lee Byung Hun in 2013. The couple has one son and one daughter.
