SEVENTEEN member Seungkwan has once again demonstrated his generosity for his hometown, Jeju.
According to his agency, PLEDIS Entertainment, on June 11th KST, Seungkwan donated 20 million KRW (approximately 14,600 USD) to the Cultural Heritage Administration and the National Trust for Cultural Heritage, asking that the funds be used to help preserve Jeju’s valuable legacy. The donation will go toward the preservation of the 'Jeju April 3rd Archives', which were added to the UNESCO Memory of the World Register in April.
As a Jeju native, Seungkwan has long contributed to his hometown through various acts of giving. In November last year, after being appointed as Jeju’s promotional ambassador, he donated a “Hometown Love Donation” through Jeju Provincial Government to support the protection of Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins, an internationally endangered species.
In addition, during his attendance at the 13th UNESCO Youth Forum held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris in 2023, Seungkwan drew attention by highlighting Jeju’s distinction as the world’s first region to receive triple UNESCO designations in natural environment categories. As a member of SEVENTEEN, the group became the first K-pop act to be assigned a dedicated special session at the event. They were later appointed as UNESCO’s first-ever Youth Goodwill Ambassadors, continuing to lead in global social impact efforts.
Meanwhile, SEVENTEEN released their 5th full-length album 'HAPPY BURSTDAY' on May 26th in celebration of their 10th debut anniversary. The album recorded the highest first-week sales among all K-pop albums released this year and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart dated June 14th, receiving enthusiastic support from global music fans.
