Actor Kim Jung Hyun has opened up about his past controversy involving gaslighting allegations, expressing feelings of injustice and shame during a recent television appearance.
On the June 13 episode of KBS2’s variety show 'Heart on Wheels,' Kim appeared as a guest alongside host Shin Dong Yup, who shared a personal remark: “There are times when you feel so broken that you don’t have the strength to get back up.” In response, Kim said, “Honestly, I don’t think I’ve been through anything that difficult. There were no hardships. But at the time, I did feel wronged, deeply ashamed—there were definitely a lot of emotions.”
Reflecting further, he added, “As time passed, I realized there was nothing truly difficult about it. What remained was just a matter of life or death.”
Kim continued, “If I keep holding on to those difficult times, then things will always feel hard. I’m not denying what happened, but by living as if nothing difficult ever happened, I find myself meeting better people and becoming healthier.”
Kim Jung Hyun faced heavy scrutiny in 2021 amid allegations that he had been gaslighted by actress Seo Ye Ji during their relationship. The controversy led to a significant blow to his public image, with the term “Kim Ddak Ddak” (a nickname referencing his stiff and withdrawn demeanor) circulating widely.
At the time, Kim's behavior at the press conference for the drama 'Time' came under fire when he appeared expressionless and disengaged. He was particularly criticized for rejecting his co-star Seohyun’s attempt to link arms during a photo session, sparking debate over his attitude and professionalism.
'Heart on Wheels' airs every Friday at 10 PM KST on KBS2.
