The man and woman who blackmailed South Korean soccer star Son Heung Min have been sent to prosecution. Whether the two acted in collusion is expected to be revealed through the prosecutorial investigation.

These two individuals have been arrested after blackmailing Son Heung Min by claiming the woman was pregnant with his child. The two demanded money in exchange for keeping the secrecy of her pregnancy with Son Heung Min's child.

The woman in her 20s, identified as Yang, who received 300 million KRW (approximately 217,000 USD) from Son Heung Min last year, has been charged with blackmail. The man in his 40s, who allegedly demanded 65 million KRW (about 47,000 USD) from Son’s side this March, faces charges of attempted blackmail.

The two individuals were sent to prosecution eight days after they were arrested on May 14.

There has been much attention on whether the two conspired together to extort money from Son Heung Min. However, the police have not applied the joint blackmail charges since they reportedly found no definitive evidence of collusion after reviewing bank transaction records and other data.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office has assigned the case to its Criminal Division 3, which specializes in major criminal cases. The assignment reflects the case's potential public impact and significance.

During the maximum 20-day detention period, prosecutors plan to focus on determining whether there was any conspiracy between the two suspects before deciding on formal indictments.
