Since their November 2022 debut, FIFTY FIFTY (KEENA, CHANELLE MOON, YEWON, HANA, and ATHENA) has been refining their musical identity, a journey that continues with their recent third mini-album, ‘Day & Night.’

With ‘Day & Night,’ FIFTY FIFTY ushers in a new chapter, revealing a more mature and bold artistic identity imbued with raw emotion. “We want people to be able to relate to these songs and feel moved by them,” ATHENA stated in an exclusive interview with allkpop.

Comprising six tracks, 'Day & Night' includes the two captivating title songs “Pookie” and “Midnight Special,” alongside B-sides “ADONIS,” “Work of Art,” “Perfect Crime,” and “Heartbreak.”

To celebrate FIFTY FIFTY’s first mini-album of the year, allkpop sat down with the girls to discuss ‘Day & Night,’ its recording process, and their ultimate artistic goals. Dive into our exclusive interview with FIFTY FIFTY below!

allkpop: First of all, congratulations on your latest project! Can you describe your experiences as part of FIFTY FIFTY so far? How has each member adapted to the shifts and the demands of being an idol?

CHANELLE MOON: Firstly, thank you so much. Yeah, it's really been an interesting and rollercoaster of a journey. It would be a lie to say this road has been one of flowers, this industry is a tough one definitely. But I get to do what I love everyday, and while doing so, I get to make so many wonderful memories filled with happiness with the people I work with. My team is filled with the greatest people who have become so important to me. I am so grateful to have met them.

HANA: At first, everything felt unfamiliar, but I gradually got used to it. The more experience I gained, the more I started to enjoy the process of growing and improving.

allkpop: What’s the message you hope listeners take away from your mini-album, ‘Day & Night’? 

ATHENA: Since this album contains various emotions that we experience throughout our life, we want people to be able to relate to these songs and feel moved by them.

allkpop: Which track from the album is your favorite or the one that is closest to your musical taste, and why?

HANA: My favorite is “Work of Art.” It’s a sentimental R&B ballad, which is exactly my style, so it quickly became my favorite. I also feel like it’s a song that really showcases my vocal tone.

allkpop: Since the album is titled ‘Day & Night,’ does each member lean more towards enjoying the day or the night?

ATHENA: What’s funny is that it’s Fifty Fifty! Half of the members are more of a day person and the others lean more towards the night.

CHANELLE MOON: I wanna say I am a day person, but a part of me loves the calmness and peace that comes with night. So today, I will say night.

HANA: I prefer daytime! I love the bright energy you can feel during the day and the sense of healing that comes from soaking up the sunlight.

YEWON: I’d say daytime! I love the feeling of starting a new, energetic day.

allkpop: Tell us how the recording process for the songs went. Which track was the hardest to record?

YEWON: The most challenging track to record was “Work of Art” because it required me to explore a new way of using my voice, so I had to put a lot of effort into studying and experimenting.

allkpop: What do you hope to achieve by the end of the year?

ATHENA: We hope to keep striving and improving as artists and always show the best versions of ourselves to our fans.
