Actress Bae Doo Na has been recognized for her acting again through the drama 'Family Matters.'
On May 20, Bae Doo Na received the Actress of the Year award at the 23rd Directors Cut Awards.
The Coupang Play series 'Family Matters' tells the story of a mother with the extraordinary ability to edit memories at will, who teams up with her family to bring hell upon the villains.
In the series, Bae Doo Na plays Han Young Soo, a woman who struggles to express emotions but is a warm and loving mother to her children. She immerses herself deeply in the role, portraying a character who fights crime with her brain-hacking ability that allows her to control others’ memories. With her signature natural tone, she convincingly navigates between emotion and logic, maternal love and vengeance, earning praise for what many have called a career-defining performance.
Upon receiving the Actress of the Year award, Bae Doo Na shared, “I’m incredibly honored to receive the Directors Cut Award for Actress of the Year. Since it’s an award given by film directors, it feels all the more meaningful. Thank you for the love you've shown to 'Family Matters,' and I’ll continue striving to remain a humble actor wherever I go.”
This award holds even greater significance as it affirms both Bae Doona’s performance and the overall quality of 'Family Matters'. not only on the global stage but also at home. In April, 'Family Matters' was the only Korean entry invited to the International Panorama Competition at Europe’s largest series festival, the 2025 Series Mania Festival, where it successfully held its European premiere.
At the time, local media and audiences offered high praise, calling it “a well-crafted work that unpacks the complex dynamics of modern families through black comedy” and “a gripping piece that cleverly shakes the contradictions between characters’ outward appearances and inner conflicts until the very end.”
