The Boyz member Kevin has officially apologized after facing backlash for cheering on a rival team after participating in a ceremonial first pitch and bat event for the home team.
On April 22, Kevin issued a statement through The Boyz's official social media account saying, “First and foremost, I sincerely apologize to baseball fans and The B (The Boyz’s fandom).”
He continued, “On April 19, I was warmly welcomed by the Kiwoom Heroes staff and was grateful for the meaningful opportunity. However, my careless behavior and remarks during the event caused discomfort to many, and I deeply regret that.”
He went on to admit his mistake by saying, “At a significant moment marking the start of the game, my support should have been directed solely at the Kiwoom players. However, I mentioned another team and acted thoughtlessly. I truly apologize to those who were upset by this.”
Kevin also expressed his regret to fellow member Eric, who participated alongside him in the ceremonial pitch. He added, “I’ve already apologized to Eric, who saw great meaning in this event, and I once again extend my sincere apologies to Kiwoom fans.”
Finally, Kevin reflected on the incident, stating, “This experience taught me how much words and actions can influence others. I’ll be more mindful moving forward. I am truly sorry.”
Previously, on April 19, The Boyz members Kevin and Eric participated in the ceremonial first pitch and bat event at the ‘2025 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League’ game between the Kiwoom Heroes and the KT Wiz, held at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul.
Wearing the home team Kiwoom Heroes’ uniforms, Kevin and Eric performed the ceremonial roles impressively and received enthusiastic applause from the audience. However, Kevin soon came under fire for his actions afterward.
A spectator at the game reported that “Kevin held up a phone with a note that read, ‘I hope the day comes when I get to sing the national anthem in Gwangju, the home of the KIA Tigers.’” The fan added, “When people couldn’t read it clearly, he increased the font size and showed it again,” and even uploaded a photo as evidence.
As the photo spread online, baseball fans criticized Kevin for expressing support for a rival team while wearing the home team’s uniform at an official event, calling it inappropriate and disrespectful.
