Kim Hyun Joong, former SS501 member and actor, recently made headlines for his farming lifestyle, which was featured on the February 28(KST) episode of tvN’s Free Doctor.
Having faced legal battles in the past, Kim Hyun Joong was previously accused of assault and battery by his ex-girlfriend, who later gave birth to his child. He was acquitted of the charges, and a paternity test confirmed him as the father. He was also involved in a DUI incident.
In 2022, Kim Hyun Joong married a woman of the same age, and they now have two sons. He has since been actively sharing his farming journey on YouTube, where he has amassed 1.21 million subscribers.
Kim Hyun Joong owns a 660-square-meter plot of land in Icheon, where he personally cultivates crops. He originally purchased the land for $150,000, but over the past decade, its value has plummeted to $22,500. Since it is classified as farmland, he was required to use it for agricultural purposes.
His farming journey began unexpectedly, but he soon found it suited him well. He chose to grow corn, which has a relatively short cultivation period. Seeking advice from a seasoned village chief, he managed to produce a crop—despite suffering a major setback when strong winds toppled his entire cornfield. Over time, he built a close relationship with the village chief, even using his connections to invite trot singer Shin In Seon to perform at a local festival in September 2024.
While pursuing farming, Kim Hyun Joong has also remained active in the entertainment industry. In 2023, he held a world tour across nine Latin American countries, followed by an international dance concert in 2024. He also starred in a Korea-Japan co-produced drama.
Now balancing life between farming and his overseas activities, Kim Hyun Joong continues to engage with fans through his unique journey.
