The operator of the cyber rumor creator YouTube channel 'Taldeok Camp (Sojang)' has appealed the guilty verdict.
According to legal sources, the operator recently filed an appeal through a legal representative. The prosecution also appealed, arguing that the sentence was too lenient. They had previously requested a four-year prison sentence in October.
On January 15, the court sentenced the operator to two years in prison, suspended for three years. The operator was also ordered to pay a fine of 1.75 million USD and complete 120 hours of community service. The court emphasized the seriousness of defamation, noting that the operator had repeatedly spread false rumors about celebrities on YouTube to earn significant profits.
Between 2021 and 2023, the operator uploaded videos with false rumors about celebrities like IVE's Jang Won Young , BTS, EXO, aespa, and Kang Daniel. These actions reportedly generated 2.08 million USD in revenue.
In addition, Jang Won Young has filed a civil lawsuit against the operator. On January 22, the appeals court ruled that the operator must pay 42,000 USD plus interest to Jang Won Young. The first trial had ordered 83,000 USD in damages. The operator has since appealed and applied to suspend enforcement of the ruling.
