As part of the documentary series, one scene showed the naming process for the group, in which several different names were under consideration, including DREAMSCAPE, CATSEYE, and NEWCRAZY. It was then revealed that the two most highly considered names ended up being KATSEYE and NEWCRAZY.
At the time of the documentary’s release, this information didn’t draw much attention. But with the recent release of HYBE’s ‘Music Industry Trend Report,’ which revealed HYBE’s stated intention to ‘dispose of NewJeans,’ the name ‘NEWCRAZY’ is now being seen in a different light.
Netizens are now speculating whether the name may have been intended as a way to help KATSEYE replace NewJeans, given the similarity between the two names. Others think the possible name could just be an embarrassing coincidence.
