On August 3, a disturbing incident unfolded at a department store near Seohyeon Station, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, where a young man in his early 20s, identified as Mr. Choi (Age 23), launched a violent attack on both men and women of various ages. The assault left a total of 13 people injured and one dead.

The rampage commenced with the perpetrator using a car to run down three individuals before carrying out further attacks using a long blade. This unsettling event unfolded in the bustling department store connected to the station.

Choi exhibited no discrimination based on gender or age, attacking victims indiscriminately. The victims were among different age groups. The attack involved stabbing, with eight people wounded in different areas of their bodies, including the back, stomach, and side. Tragically, most of them suffered severe injuries, with eight victims in critical condition.

Disturbing CCTV footage captures the suspect, clad in a dark jacket, as he stalks through the crowded area and mercilessly lunges at innocent bystanders. The incident has left the community and authorities deeply concerned and in horror.

The perpetrator, in his 20s, was confirmed to be a delivery worker. He made a startling claim to the police, stating that he believed "a group of assailants are trying to kill me." The police conducted a simple drug test for possible substance abuse, but the test came back negative, leaving the authorities puzzled by the situation. There are speculations that the man is suffering from a mental illness.

Yep, sounds very much like he's not at all well. Mental illness is a personal hell that has ramifications far beyond the person suffering, and yet I don't know of any society where it isn't treated as some sort of shameful second class problem, where it has a proper place in the health service and is accorded enough resources to deal with it.

.

My thoughts are with all the victims and their families, praying those injured make a full and complete recovery, and my condolences to those bereaved.
