The impact of Jimin's visit to Jeju on small businesses

Jimin is always in the headlines for his massive influence that stems from his immense global popularity. His solo music releases record outstanding chart performances and break records even without promotions, and his fashion sense has made all big fashion brands, magazines, and influencers keep their eyes on him and constantly praise him. Local media outlets talk about his impact on the country's growing domestic food exports and for tourism and culture promotion to the rest of the world. All these scenarios have been witnessed over the past few days.

On January 7th, JIBS, a local news channel in Jeju, discussed the impact of Jimin's visit to Jeju on small businesses during its show 'Focus on Jeju' where the Nuwemaru Merchant Committee chairman Shin Ae Bock was a guest. The chairman said the situation had been difficult due to the COVID-19 pandemic but that Jimin's visit had helped to revive the mood and dynamics on Nuwemaru Street with more people visiting the place now.

Shin specifically mentions that even though she knows BTS to be superstars as a group, she was amazed at Jimin's huge influence as an individual and was looking forward to all the changes it will bring to the region.

Just the day before, on January 6th, a special Jimin photo zone had been created on Nuwemaru Street, which had drawn a huge influx of visitors ever since Jimin's visit when he posted some photos on his Instagram account.

One of the artists who created the special Jimin photo zone mentioned the infinite expression of interest from fans who asked for an extension of the photo zones, which is why this special Jimin photo zone came up.

During the JIBS interview, the chairman had also mentioned that many of the other photo zones in the area are now gone, but Jimin's photo zone would remain standing and that there would be a reorganization of BTS promotion to keep Jimin's footsteps intact. Jimin's impact on the country's tourism, both for this case of Jeju and other cases, is undeniable, as evidenced by the recognition he has had from different media outlets and government tourism entities [read previous reports here].

In matters of culture, on January 6th, KBS News aired a segment on K-pop artists taking Korean culture to the world through the hanbok, and it featured the designer who made Jimin's hanbok that he wore during his memorable 2018 MMA solo fan dance for BTS' 'IDOL' performance. During the interview, the designer mentions how it was a dream come true for her when she got the call to make the hanbok. The designer has recently shared how Jimin wearing her hanbok brought her such honor.

Just recently, a different designer Kim Rieul had arranged for the exclusive exhibition of a hanbok that he had specially made for Jimin for yet another 'IDOL' performance for 'The Tonight Show,' which ended up drawing lots of attention ever since the hanbok was first unveiled. The exhibition attracted a lot of visitors as well [refer here].

Even the media articles that reported on the exhibition received high engagements that demonstrated the high level of interest in the exhibition from the public, which impressed the designer. Jimin carries a high impact, and anything associated with him will attract high attention levels.

In other news, on December 31st, KBS News aired a segment on the growing global influence of Korean culture in 2021, discussing both the success of 'Butter' on the charts and the four-day sold-out #PTD_ON_STAGE_LA concert. During this discussion, the outlet used Jimin-centered footage for the performances and also incorporated his concert greetings.

Similarly, an MBC entertainment show featured a clip of Jimin from BTS' collaboration with Coldplay, 'My Universe.' The portion of the MV played on the show did not include Jimin, but the show specifically edited Jimin's part of the MV into that portion, making it obvious that the intention was to show him. The media never misses a chance to highlight Jimin when speaking of BTS, which shows Jimin's status and influence as perceived by the outlets.

On the international scale, India.com, an Indian news site, featured two of Jimin's looks as part of its 'Top BTS Fashionable Moments of 2021' feature, mentioning his rainbow-colored hair for the 'Butter' comeback and his jaw-dropping black suit worn at the #PTD_ON_STAGE_LA concerts. The high-end Korean designer boutique Jaybaek Couture had previously posted this iconic suit that both on the company's official Instagram account and on its website. Apart from the fact that Jimin looked absolutely stunning in that suit, the company also recognized his brand power, hence the posts [read here].

In Australia, Tone Deaf, the country's biggest music publisher, named Jimin's Christmas Song 'Christmas Love' as a K-pop song that keeps Christmas alive, with Jimin being the only solo artist on the list, further attesting to his power as an artist.

In terms of his popularity, 'World Top 10' channel compiled a list of Korea's most loved K-pop male idols over the past three years, and Jimin was at the top of this list. This is verifiable by the fact that Jimin has also been at the top of the brand reputation ranking for individual boy group members for 35 consecutive months as of November 2021 and 37 months in total.

Jimin's impact is felt in all kinds of news features both in his home country and internationally.
