"Filter" by Jimin remains the highest-ranked Korean Male solo song on Spotify's Top K-POP Tracks of 2021

BTS' Jimin's very own song "Filter" has maintained its status as the most popular and well-loved Korean Male solo track for two years in a row.

On the 1st of December, the world's largest music streaming platform Spotify released annual data on what the world listened to in the past year, be it the top albums, artists, podcasts, and more. In the roundup, BTS was unveiled as the 3rd most streamed artist in the world, thus making it the most-streamed group and K-POP group.

While BTS took half of the top 20 spots on Spotify's Top K-POP Tracks of 2021, it was also to the delight of fans when BTS' Jimin's song Filter emerged 16th on the list. With this position, it yet again was crowned as the top most-streamed Korean male solo track and B-side, surpassing the title track ON, which is also from the Map Of The Soul 7 Album of 2020. As earlier implied, this is not the first time that Filter has emerged top on the list because last year it ranked 11th to be the most streamed Korean Male solo track of 2020. It should be noted that Filter was #1 in Amazon's Best Sellers of 2020 and 2021, as well as bagging a nomination for the 10th GAON Chart Music Awards for 'Artist Of The Year' along with Friends, ON and Zero O'clock.

"Filter" is a song that has constantly risen to the top of the music charts and captured the fascination of listeners. On the 21st of February, as soon as it was released, it recorded the biggest debut for a Korean soloist in Spotify history with 2.2 Million streams. It was the highest-charting Korean solo on Spotify's Global Top 200 at #33 as well as in 12 countries like the UK, US & Canada; It was the fastest language solo track to achieve 10 Million streams as well as the fastest Korean Male solo to achieve 20 Million-161 Million streams and charted in 11 countries and regions on Spotify Viral 50 as well as garnering the most entries for a Korean solo on Spotify Top 200 at 54 countries and regions.

The song was the first Korean song to chart in Switzerland and the Netherlands, as well as the first BTS solo to chart in Germany. Amazingly, upon its release, "Filter" gave the title Track ON a run for its money that it was temporarily unavailable from several platforms like Apple Music, YouTube Audio, and Shazam. Moreover, in Australia, Filter, an unpromoted B-side, managed to out-chart the title track ON, a song that received a lot of radio play in the country.

Filter continues to showcase its popularity and impact even now. On the 28th and 29th of November, during the BTS Permission To Dance In LA concerts, it was the highest-charting BTS solo and B-side track on South Korea's Spotify. It also gained the most number of MelOn Daily Listeners on the same days despite Jimin not having performed the song live. In Vietnam, the song has recently re-entered Spotify Vietnamese' Top 200 at #153 and was #10 on Spotify wrapped's Viral Hits of Portugal in 2021, along with charting in the top 100 in 7 countries on iTunes.

On the 11th of October, "Filter" attained a total of 115 number 1's after Japan joined the ranks, making it the First and Only BTS solo song from MOTS 7, and Jimin's first solo to climb up to number 1 in the country.  "Filter" retains the title of the most streamed Korean solo audio track on Youtube at 79 Million streams and 228 Million current streams on Spotify as the most-streamed solo track of MOTS 7 as well the fastest Korean B-Side, unpromoted Korean solo, and Korean male solo to achieve the milestone.

The Latin pop-inspired track has been featured on TV shows in Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina, along with going viral on TikTok, where it is the 8th most used song of the official BTS audios on the platform. It has also been used in several capacities. For example, in April, Japanese figure skaters Tim Koleto and Misato komatsubara performed a splendid routine with Filter as their background music for IMG World Premier Touring Figure Skating show 2021 'Star on Ice.' It got the privilege of being used as background music for a campaign against the Covid 19 pandemic by the World Health Organization on Tiktok, drawing much attention.  In Korea, "Filter" was also the background music for the tvN Comedy Big League Show during a skit with actor Haejun Kim among others.

"Filter" has been the beloved choice for countless talented idols and artists and has received several instrumental, dance, and performance covers. Early this year, Maria Khoreva, a ballerina and first soloist with the St. Petersburg Mariinsky theatre, posted an elegant cover of it to her social media accounts, garnering praise. It has even received love from the world of football with Tottenham Hotspur Korea's Twitter account and several footballers like Son Heungmin posting photos of them doing the signature pose for "Filter" on several occasions.

Park Jimin seems to have shaken the world with "Filter," but as more and more listeners discover and fall in love with it, the achievements will only keep growing, and it might just retain its title for the third year. Congratulations Jimin!

That's my fav Jimin solo track by far. I have to stop myself from doing the dance moves in public when I'm listening to it on the bus or train lol.

LIE was my 1st and will always be my favorite but Jimin really has such gorgeous solos. FILTER was fire and his solo (online) stage was a knock-out. Jimin sings it so well and its AMAZING! I'm sad we won't get to see it performed live.
