With former Big Bang member Seungri being sentenced to 3 years in prison by the General Military Court of the Ground Operations Command, there has been much discussion over the former idol group member.
Seungri has been officially taken into legal custody on the charges of mediating prostitution and illegal gambling and has also been ordered to pay 1.15 billion KRW (~988,627.17 USD) in fines. Seungri previously faced up to 5 years in prison for prostitution charges, but the court finalized his sentence to three years.
Many netizens were angered that Seungri was only given a short sentence of three years and was baffled as the Korean justice system had not severely punished him for his crimes. Nevertheless, there are still fans who are supporting Seungri and state they will wait for him to come back.
One fan wrote on Seungri's fan page, saying, "To our forever 'Seungtsby'." The fan continued to write, "We reminisce back at the time when you wanted to desperately debut. When YG's former CEO chose you as the last member, that's when the legacy of Big Bang started."
The fan continued to write, "You always took a special place in our hearts because you always had the image of the mischievous Maknae. Still, the reason you were able to receive much love from fans is that you were the key member of bringing Big Bang to the peak of K-pop."
The writer of the post wrote, "Your fans still support you and believe you will overcome this crisis" in regards to the 2019 'Burning Sun' scandal. In addition, they wrote, "Now you will face another ordeal, suffering in a remote place completely cut off from the world. It is heartbreaking for your fans to see the star falling from its brilliance but you should humbly accept the judgment," referring to the final sentence Seungri recently received.
The following is the full letter posted on Seungri's fan page, Seungri Gallary:
"To our eternal 'Seungtsuby'...
I decided to give you another chance.
And I thought I saw a small change in you when I watched you for two weeks. So I believe there will be a bigger change if I wait two more years, not only for two weeks.
I hope that you will be able to repay this expectation and hope I have for you.
I reminisce what Yang Hyun Suk, the former YG Entertainment Chairman said to you, the former member of Big Bang, during the 'Real Docu: Big Bang.' It was a time when your fans earnestly dreamt of the day that you will make your debut.
You had a special place in our hearts as you appeared in various entertainment programs with the members and were seen as the 'immature Maknae,' 'troublemaker' and had that mischievous image.
Nevertheless, the reason you were able to receive much love from fans is that you showed your sincerity through the passion and diligence that you showed on stage and during the broadcast. You were also played a key role in bringing Big Bang to the peak of K-pop.
However, the fans' journey has also been a thorny path since the year before the last, after you became involved in so many cases.
Even though you left Big Bang, fans still supported you and cheered for you. We worshipped your confidence more than anyone else so we believed that there is no doubt that you will overcome this ordeal as well.
But, you were sentenced to 3 years in prison by the General Military Court of the Ground Operations Command with 1.15 billion KRW (~988,627.17 USD) in fines. Your personal information was also registered.
Now you will face another ordeal, suffering in a remote place completely cut off from the world.
It is difficult and pains us, as fans, to face the reality that the star is falling from its brilliance but we have decided that we will accept the judgment that the court has made and hope that you would humbly accept the judgment as well.
Also, the fans will deeply take to heart the idiom, "Justice will prevail."
This means that "Nothing goes uncorrected for long. or Truth will win overcome in the long run."
You, Seungri, who dreamt of the life of 'The Great Gatsby' are now to face the same tragic situation as Gatsby's fate but the fans promise to wait and look forward to the day when you will stand high again someday.
Please, we earnestly hope that you, Seungri, will not give up until the end.
