LABOUM's "Journey to Atlantis" gains popularity but they're not experiencing the flowery path like Brave Girls or EXID

LABOUM's 2016 song "Journey to Atlantis" has been gaining recognition since it was featured recently on 'Hangout With Yoo.' Ever since then, their content related to the song continues to experience growth, with their Fact in Star appearance having more than 2 million views, having a few stages and stage mixes with more than 1 million views, and their recent performance having more than 700,000 views in a week. Journey To Atlantis also climbed positions on numerous music charts.

However, the girl group isn't experiencing a flowery path as Brave Girls or EXID did. "Journey to Atlantis" didn't achieve an all-kill, no other songs from their catalog seem to be climbing the charts, and apparently, they only had a "special stage" instead of promotions on Music Core. In fact, Laboum is still experiencing some hate, and their future remains up in the air since their contracts will be up for renewal in August. The Journey To Atlantis MV has fewer views than Fromis 9's We Go, Rocket Punch's Ring Ring, StayC's ASAP, and it's not even close to Aespa's Next Level and Everglow's First.

There are many questions about Laboum left unanswered since their recent climb in the charts. Recently Yujeong could be seen working as a barista in a cafe for a part-time job; Haein, ZN, and Solbin profiles were found to be shared in BMPKhan Ent website for acting. Soyeon worked in the lyrics for the Imitation drama fictional kpop group Sparkling and their song Diamond, while also releasing an OST for Youth of May. Laboum was also rumored to appear in Road to Queendom along with DIA, Weeekly, SECRET NUMBER, STAYC, Cignature, and NATURE, even though how many staff they have remains a question. Global H's CEO and managing director Shim Hwa Seok moved to MLD Ent earlier this year, any plans for a brother group to debut seem to have fallen apart, and promises made by Global H like adding a Japanese member, releasing a mini-album, or promotions weren't kept, the company isn't even updating their social media since 2019, and they don't have a website, making it impossible to reach for answers. Solbin was disappointed with their last Firework promotions, and she wanted to get a part-time job because the group was nameless, even though Journey To Atlantis climbed a little in the charts every spring. Solbin shared a little of her struggles in Heal Song, written by her before. Laboum also apologized before for having the song as they thought it would be more known if another artist had it.

Laboum's current MV views are so low they have fancams with more views. Their song Only U, which was released in the same summer Red Velvet's Red Flavor, has around 650,000 views, while a Haein fancam of the same song has 680,000. Their summer song isn't mentioned as a fan and artist favorite, since Journey To Atlantis, Shooting Love, and Between Us gets more love.

Laboum recently shared to be working on an album since their Cheese release. Will Laboum's path become easier, and their title song find the success of Journey To Atlantis

Someone's trying too hard to make the song go viral... and that never ends well.

This much media play is too obvious. It's not meant to be. just focus on a good comeback if the company has time for this.

Here's the thing about viral songs/videos; you can't really predict it. And I feel like, when you try to predict it and its projections, it dies the hype down even more. Also, these types of sudden chart climbing of old songs and little known groups in Kpop only happen once in a blue moon, that's why looking back, only a few groups/artists have ever experienced this. Since Brave Girls recently had a sudden resurgence out of nowhere, I think it would be hard for any other group to see the same reaction any time soon.

And like you mentioned, "Journey to Atlantis" is a song that jumps the charts a bit now and then, so it's not a completely unknown song and people have heard it before so that could play in to the factor why people aren't exactly flocking to hear it the way they did with "Rollin". But still, you can't deny that "Journey to Atlantis" is catchy and a feel good spring/summer song and I'm happy to see it get more attention.
