WA$$UP officially disband after nearly six years together

After the departure of numerous members, girl group WA$$UP has decided to disband.

According to press reports released on February 10, remaining members - Nari, Jiae, Woojoo, and Sujin - have terminated their contracts with their agency Mafia Records

"There was still time left on the WA$$UP members' contracts with the agency," an industry source revealed, adding that the early termination was made in consideration of the members' futures.

Meanwhile, WA$$UP debuted back in 2013 with the single "Wassup," receiving popularity for their dancehall-inspired music and twerking dance performance. In the years they were together, they not only promoted as a group, but were involved with other solo projects as well, with Nari appearing as a contestant on 'The Unit' and Sujin playing a mermaid on the 2017 drama 'A Korean Odyssey.'

They were a different, unique group that never got the attention they deserved. Wish them all the best for the future especially Nari, she has so much potential.

True, but K-pop is a cutthroat industry, and I think after Nada, Jinju and Dain left, disbandment was only a matter of time. :(

this group was doomed from the start. koreans don't have the ass or sass to twerk! add to that korean hypocritical mentally of denouncing sexual things while they have sex at gangnam clubs with hookers. so everything will be censored and viewers acting like they are shocked and not watching. all resulting in a totally wrong concept.

The are so talented. It's sad that they never got the recognition they deserve.

I blame myself, I finally liked a song by them, so of course now they're disbanding.

They could've become the next SISTAR mainly because they had awesome summer bops. They weren't scared to show off their bodies or do explicit dance moves like most girl groups. They actually had something going for them but terrible promotion, terrible management, and a terrible company withheld their potential. I really can't stand when companies don't longterm invest more time and money in the groups they just debut. How do you think Mamamoo became so successful? Their company is not that well know but they kept pushing and pushing Mamamoo into the market that it gave them recognition. I hope the Wa$$up members can find success in something else, maybe a different company. It's always sad to see talented girls get split up

What did people expect from BigHit before BTS became successful? They weren't that well known but even they produced a successful group. The mindset shouldn't be to expect less from a not-so well known company. The mindset should be to expect the company to invest in their group for them to succeed, well known or not. Just because Mafia wasn't well known doesn't mean they could not have promoted Wa$$up a lot better....

Hopefully Nari has a bright future, one that is as bright as her smile which might be the best on in K-pop.

Wa$$up got off on the wrong foot with listeners. They had good music, but the initial negative reaction to them never wore off. Shame.

Saddened but not surprised - they never seemed to get the attention (& tracks) they deserved.

WA$$UP Group did DEBUT with an 'over-the-top' BUTT DANCE (Twerking) Concept. It worked, in that they did get some attention from K-pop Fans at the time. It generated 'debate' as to IF this type of Concept was 'too much' for K-pop Music. The 'novelty' wore off, in that there were already some 'fringe' K-pop Group (LAYSHA ; BAMBINO ; etc) doing this same type of 'Power Sensual' Concept.

Personally, I was okay with WA$$UP doing their 'Twerking' Concept. But it was NOT clear, with their AGENCY support level (MAFIA Records), that WA$$UP was going anywhere that much. MAFIA Agency is NOT say JYPe Agency. But WA$$UP Group lasted LONGER than a LOT of K-pop Groups do. The WA$$UP members should get credit for that.
