Dara breaks down in tears and quits training on 'Real Men 300'

Dara couldn't handle the tough training on MBC's 'Real Men 300.'

On the December 21 airing, the members participated in combat training. Throughout the tough training time, Dara is captured shedding sweat, as well as tears.

When given a 10-minute break, Dara stepped outside and heavily sobbed. In an interview with the producers, Dara revealed, "I didn't have the courage to go back. I believed I really need to go home." She continued, "Same with the shooting training... I hate gruesome things. I know it's a fake knife but you could've still gotten stabbed..."

Fellow members encouraged Dara, however, she replied, "I don't think I can do this," and ultimately quit the combat training.

It's because she's not a violent person by nature and they were doing actual one on one fighting/grappling with a partner then later on, individuals had to go 1 against 6 male instructors at the same time. The combat training was so intense that Matthew Douma (Somi's dad) ended up with an ear bleeding. At least she gave it a try for a few hours. You guys should watch the show before judging because it was so brutal and I don't blame her for not wanting to get injured. Dara did really well on the parachute training though, and jumped out of a plane last week.

good for her, it actually takes a strong person to know when enough is enough, tbh i dont like this show, ( even before this ) i just dont see the point in it, i dont enjoy seeing the trainers putting these idols who already have a MEGA stressful lives, thru more STRESS :/ its so stupid, leave the military training for people who are actually in the military.

Nobody forced them to join the show. So don't make it sound like people are trying to torture them or force them into a stressful show. It's not the first episode people's seen the show and knows not to take it lightly it's more than likely to be real training. The show gives people the experience and insights of military training. Just don't join if not up for it or quit. Nobodys going to point a gun and say no she can't leave.

These celebs know what they are getting in to. This is not the first season of this show. As for the point of the show? It's to show off what S.Korea's military training is like. People who can't/couldn't go through it (women, foreigners, the exempt) get to see, what those who do, go through.

You all have valid points and I kind of agree with you, but for these things it's usually different when you experience it for yourself compared to seeing it on screen or hearing it from other people. Pretty sure they've spoken to past participants before going on the show, but it's just never like you expect. Although, yes, if Dara was that fragile to begin with I don't know what her people were thinking letting her participate.

If people follow dara throughout her career, they will know how hard the decision of quitting was for her.For someone that had to rebuilt her career and still managed to be not only sucessfull but extremely sucessful twice, people should know by now how hard working she is. She gave up because probably it was an experience not worthing having, dara doesnt need to prove anything at this point in her career, so to the people complaning in the comment section, get up and try it yourself and then you can talk, you didnt half of what dara has done in her career and you the nerve to criticize her.

If we taught young girls self defence in school they'd be more self confident and able to look out for themselves.

She jumped off the plane on previous episode- a lot of men would not even dare sign up for. One’s weakness can be somebody else’s strenghtand vise versa - dara did more than what he could within her limits- she has all the right to speak up and make a braver decision to protect her greater reasons than show off and regret later. Kudos unnie! Fighting!

Dara has a big heart. Some people just don't have it in them to be violent, even if it's training or choreographed. Besides, I think she only weighs about 90 pounds. At least she gave it a shot.

It's understandable for her to quit. The training could be too much and looking at her body frame it's already a miracle she lasted this long.

wow some of us here very much quick to judge and drop their stupid comments. (which i think signifies how some of us dont have a life) i'd like to see you all try and LET YOUR ACTIONS DO THE TALKING. "she knows what she got herself into" "she should've not joined in the first place" so what if dara quit and WHO ARE YOU TO SAY SUCH THINGS?? is it ever so wrong for someone to be honest that they cannot handle what they experienced in the show? does her action speak in behalf of her thoughts? do you expect that all people should have all the guts to experience any hardships physically, mentally emotionally and etc???

fyi. it also takes much courage and strength to let someone/people know your own weaknesses.

There are a lot of people who face the same hardships as she did yet don't have the luxury to quit because they're enlisted and need to fulfill their 2 years.

Other girl idols had the same hardships and persevered.

With this she only showed she had the luxury of quitting where others couldn't even if they wanted to. And she showed she didn't know what she willingly signed up for not had the will to and character to persevere where other female idols did.

The most positive thing she showed the audience is that military service is no joke or walk in the park

Actually, female idols from previous seasons have never gone through anything as brutal as this combat training. You really can't compare. Yes, Dara didn't know what she signed up for because on other Real Men seasons, everything was manageable with a little perserverance. This season is the most ruthless one ever because the special forces finally allowed MBC into the division and it's on a whole different level. They made the cast get into physical fights with no mercy as in bodies were getting thrown around, twisted, slammed. It has never been THIS violent.

If she really didn’t know what she was getting into, it was a terrible thing. However I see one of only two scenarios here. The first is she didn’t know, but her management did and didn’t bother telling her the full story. If that’s the case she should look at finding new management. There is no way her management didn’t know what their bread and butter was getting involved in. The second is she knew and didn’t judge her own limitations very well due to the money or exposure involved. If it’s the second scenario, I hope she avoids a similar result in the future.

this is incredibly unproffessional of her

sets a terrible example for the young men and women who go out and defend their country from many very real threat

crying and saying that shes a non violent person is just a cop out

if that was the case she shouldnt have signed a contract to begin with

I like DARA but this is the most dumbest thing I’ve seen her done. I’m glad this variety show actually showed some realism in basic combat and etc. you’re getting what you’ve seen and i know this is to show “How tough I am” and i love her enthusiasm but she should’ve talk about the idea of her joining to other people more or something.

not defending her but if you saw last episode, she clearly mentioned that she didnt know she will have to actually jump from an aeroplane. i am 100% sure she would have refused to join had she known what was in store for her. Though i feel disappointed that she quit because she has the guts in her to persevere, but then its just a tv program, so what difference does it make

She’s afraid of heights and if you weren’t such an asshole and followed her career, you would’ve known that. As someone who shares her fear, it’s something that’s not easy to overcome

this is why equality won't exist tbh in korea more specifically, women in korea ask for equality but they don't want to serve.

Share

1

crowboy 27 days ago 2

i think a lot of women don't want to serve AND think men shouldn't have to serve. i've noticed it's mainly men who jump on other men who don't want to serve or try to get out of service, even if for legitimate medical reasons (and i have a feeling this has to do with the mentality of "I'M not joining the military because I want to, why do YOU get to get out of it).

equality doesn't have to come whichever way you choose. in this case it could be mandatory enlistment for all OR for none.

Share

rn yeah coz SK and NK are already at "peace", there has been many scandal about the "feminist" community in SK tho i wouldn't say the third wave of feminist to be called feminist cause they simply want to overtake men more than equality. ofc again if the mandatory service were to be continued that would mean women in SK will serve too but if they decide that the service won't be needed anymore i think that would make a quite big controversy cause a lot of kpop fandom will be mad not to mention some of the family victims. But it is true that equality in enlistment should be all or none

lmao south korea is pretty behind a lot of other countries when it comes to equal rights. there is A LOT of sexism in korea.

feminists are people seeking equal rights among the sexes. those who call themselves feminist but want women to be above men aren't feminists. end of story. there are no "radical feminists" or whatever people want to call them; just idiots.

and there is a lot of negative discourse nowadays surrounding the "third wave", which i hate. people are only thinking about USA and applying their understanding of USA society to EVERY country. what about countries like many of those in Africa where GIRLS are still being made to marry men older than their fathers, aren't allowed to get an education and all too often end up as mothers before they are even 15?

anyway, i think specifically in relation to the conscription issue... it makes more sense to NOT have mandatory enlistment. military is generally lucrative enough that people CHOOSE to join and make a career; people who want to be there, want to fight for their country and want to do well. forcing every man or anyone to join for two years when they don't want to be there... i get it's "in case" of war... but you just end up with a lot of resources being given to people who don't want to be where they are. many countries have mandatory conscription - but it is only enacted when there is legitimate threat of war; not just the potential for a war looming but a war has essentially started.

sorry if this sounds harsh! i just want to be objective!

He is the worst, but you know who else is even worse than him? His dog, kizaru_hijin. He's a lying bully who likes to go around accusing people of having different accounts so he can s**t all over them. Don't believe me? Look up his comments and see for yourself. Oh, and if you want to see more, send me a PM and I'll send you the 400+ screenshots I have of his disgusting comments, which included him calling f(x) Amber abnormal because she doesn't look like a girl (in his opinion), claiming rape is okay and a social norm, and that blackface is a completely non-racist trend.

PS. I'd steer clear of him and his master Stopudelulu if I were you. You don't want him stalking and bullying you on this site. He likes to tell people to go kill themselves. I don't know about you, but that's pretty disturbing to me.

thats bigblueagain, he has multiple accounts since many years(like ryenlux, holdthisLnoobs, bangeryun94, wang_sejung, alcohol...just to name a few) and akp showed countless times, that they will never ban him. someone even made a screenshot of comments of an akp admin stating himself, that he cant do anything about this user, no matter what he says, he will never ban him.

thats how akp is, they only care for comments and clicks and will let any hateful trash here, as long as they get those from them. he is a racist who hates south korea and is even allowed to spread lies about the country itself, according to him, south korea is a warmongerer, and even that didnt bother akp at all...

he even made fun of jonghyuns death and not even that bothered them, thats how dirty akp is...
