Gayoon, former member of K-pop girl group 4Minute, has made a meaningful return, not to the stage but to the page, as an essayist.
On July 28 KST, Gayoon published her debut essay book titled "In the Most Unfamiliar Sea, I Became the Most Myself”, chronicling her personal journey of self-discovery during her time in Bali, Indonesia. The book offers intimate reflections on moving beyond the bright spotlight of idol fame to embrace a quieter, more authentic life.
Amid anxiety and a longing to escape from the pressures of her public life, Gayoon found unexpected peace in Bali. What began as a short trip evolved into a meaningful chapter of her life, with daily routines in a foreign land slowly becoming her new normal.
In her writing, she shares moments not as an idol or actress, but simply as “Gaga,” a woman from Korea navigating a new life abroad. Her honest and introspective voice encourages readers to focus less on urgent achievement and more on living fully in the present, emphasizing that it’s the accumulation of each sincere moment that shapes who we become.
“When I first began writing, I was more afraid than excited,” Gayoon confessed. “But now I’m glad to be able to share my stories through writing. I hope this book can provide some comfort and strength to those standing at a crossroads or feeling worn out.”
Gayoon debuted in 2009 as a member of 4Minute and began acting in 2012 with MBC’s 'Light and Shadow'. Since then, she has appeared in various TV dramas and films, including 'Let’s Eat 2', 'Daddy You, Daughter Me', 'Search Out', and 'Singer Song'.
