He had recently tested positive for marijuana and had admitted to the charges. He just uploaded a letter of apology. The letter reads:

This is Choi Seung Hyun (T.O.P's real name).
First of all, I want to apologize with all my heart for disappointing many and causing a controversy through my fault.
I am too embarrassed of myself even to apologize in person... I do not have any excuses and I have many regrets. I am now cautiously writing while I am afraid of everything...
I believe I should be rightly punished for hurting the members, the label, the public, the fans who cherished me, and my family in a way that cannot be fixed. My heart hurts, and I am very disappointed in myself.
I will look back on myself thousands of times and reflect and reflect and think on my actions...
I will not make the same irresponsible mistakes again.
I apologize once again for not being able to go apologize personally one on one to everyone, and I will reflect more deeply.
I am very embarrassed of myself.
I'm sorry.

I wonder if all you righteous people who criticize people who should be punished for breaking the law - EVER. Drove over the posted speed limit- drove after drinking - because your alcohol level is according to weight and most of you are thin - or EVER did anything illegal according to Archaec Laws? Think about yourselves. - and anyway. Have you checked out all the illegal activities in S. Korea? Porno is so popular - prostitution etc. why don't they arrest those people also? I just find it ridiculous that so many of you are so ignorant about the usage of marijuana- you are getting lost in a progressive world. You are so advanced technologically and so far behind in science- 😰

I'm madder that people are calling him a crazy person for smoking weed. I don't smoke weed and would never just because its not my believe but i don't think people who do are crazy or have mental problems. Knezt are treating him like he has mental problems and is super dangerous. from my knowledge smoking weed is like being drunk.

Poor bubba. Out of all the time to smoke the thing he had to be in military service. Now that's irresponsible of him. I get that it's illegal in SK (even tho I'm for legalization of the drug, cause of its many benefits in the course of medical sense and of course safe recreational use) but still, he should have known better to never have taken a risk such as this, in this particular situation. I'm sad and a little disappointed that this happened during his service. Tbh if he wasn't in the military I wouldn't have been disappointed at all. I hope he's doing okay.

I think what some people don't understand is that this situation isn't whether weed is wrong or not, but that TOP decided to break a law he knew about, even when two idols from the same label have had a scandal over this. I really love TOP and his music, but he should have known better. It doesn't matter whether or not people use weed all the time, or if it's legal in other countries. What matters is that TOP knew that using weed was illegal but still decided to go through with it. It might not be a "big deal" to those who come from countries where it is normal to take weed, but to people who live in Korea, it is. Just because it's normal to you doesn't make it okay for him to do it. Of course this doesn't mean I'm gonna stop loving his music or him as a person. I'm glad he apologized, and i hope he's more careful in the future ;)

I would be... deadly embarrassed. Anyway, it's "just weed", so to me it's not a big deal, it's a big deal to Korea but not to me. I don't like weed and I'm not exactly happy if someone (I'm talking about people I know, because I don't know how much TOP uses it) uses it but...well... as I always say...their life their choices. I love BB, I'm not going to stop supporting them just because of some weed.
