The Ministry of National Defense have selected girl group Lovelyz as the face of a new campaign to lower the percentage of smokers among ROK Army's active duty soldiers.

A rep from the Ministry of National Defense stated on August 1, "We will actively promote our new anti-smoking campaign after appointing Lovelyz as our official spokesmodels."

Lovelyz plan to take part in a 2017 calendar photo shoot that will be used in the living quarters of the ROK Army bases, host a talk show with the soldiers who successfully quit smoking, act as personal counselors to the soldiers enlisted at a Nonsan training facility, and visit the unit with the highest number of soldiers that quit smoking at the end of the year to put on a congratulatory performance.

This new campaign is a part of the Ministry's efforts to lower the percentage of smokers among soldiers to 30% by 2020. The funds for this campaign is said to be provided by the Ministry of Health and Welfare

They're pretty popular among soldiers. And the Ministry of Defense wouldn't have picked them if they weren't.

This is great! Lovelyz fits well as the face of this campaign! And they are so popular in the army too!

anyone who knows what the percentage is now?

krell intricate Monday, August 1, 2016

See my post below ; I am *guessing* at least 40%

intricate krell Tuesday, August 2, 2016

do you know of any actual numbers? I'd expect that the article mentioning this percentage target also contains the current figures..

krell intricate Tuesday, August 2, 2016

I just used GOOGLE Search to get my figures. And I only found for like MALES SMOKING (percentage) is S.K. and USA. So, again, I am GUESSING that the S.K. MILITARY percentage of MALE smokers is a bit HIGHER than for *all* males in S.KOREA. So, again, like 40% would be my GUESS on it; but I do NOT know it as a fact.

https :// en. wikipedia. org /wiki/Smoking_in_South_Korea ... <-- Read this; you'll know MORE than you wanted about S.K. smoking. MILITARY SMOKING is mentioned, but I did NOT see where a PERCENTAGE on it was given.

Oh_Kill_Em Monday, August 1, 2016

Ah, use cute idols to help persuade soldiers to quite smoking. Pretty smart 👍

krell Monday, August 1, 2016

It says that 36% of S.KOREAN *males* do SMOKE tobacco. So, it is likely more than say 40% of males in the S.KOREAN Military do smoke cigarettes. This would be as opposed to around 22% of males in the USA who smoke cigarettes.

I've heard that soldiers loooooove Lovelyz and girl groups in general, so this is really intelligent of them. Such a good campaign :)

great for them~ this is a REALLY smart move since nothing but good PR can come from this

intricate pannypop21 Monday, August 1, 2016
