A 24-year-old university student by the name of Mr. Lee was sentenced to three years in prison by Seoul Western District Court recently under charges of forcing himself upon a then-girlfriend who had wanted to remain chaste until marriage.

Lee met his girlfriend 'A' at a university organization, and the two have dated ever since 2013. Their relationship was far from perfect as the two often fought because Lee wanted to have sexual relations when 'A' was adamant on adhering to abstinence until the time was right.

Lee ended up having sexual relations with another woman and 'A' discovered his infidelity when the woman uploaded a post on social media which mocked her. Upon seeing the post, 'A' arranged to meet with Lee in Seoul's Sinchon district this past May. 'A' wanted to meet in a bar but Lee requested that they go to a motel instead since he was tired.

After they talked at the motel, the two fell asleep without anything happening. The alleged rape occurred the following morning, when Lee forced himself on 'A,' going so far as to inflict physical harm.

The courts declared, "The wounds on 'A's legs are something that rarely arises from normal sexual relations. There is a high possibility of coercion. Lee showed no signs of remorse and considering that he didn't try to rectify the mental and physical pain of 'A,' we have punished him severely."

Meanwhile, Lee was reported to have claimed that he only had sexual relations with 'A' after earning her consent.
