Kang Han Na shared that the show felt very genuine since it was targeted at lifelong singles. She did not expect to become so invested but sincerely hoped the person she was coaching would succeed and finally escape being single.
On the 3rd, Netflix held a production press conference for 'Better Late Than Single' at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Seoul’s Yongsan district. Seo In Guk, Kang Han Na, Lee Eun Ji, Car, the Garden, and directors Jo Wook Hyung, Kim No Eun, and Won Seung Jae attended.
The show is a makeover dating reality series that captures the six-week process of lifelong singles learning how to love and express their feelings. About 4,000 applicants competed to join the cast. The production team and the Spark Makers focused not only on external transformations but also on inner growth by examining speech patterns, behaviors, and coping strategies instead of just styling.

Seo In Guk remarked that when you go out wearing sweatpants compared to a suit, even your walk changes. Stylists were brought in to help boost the participants’ confidence. The program also features various unique elements. Director Jo said there was even a one-night, two-day overnight date. He wondered if lifelong singles would agree to spend the night away but surprisingly, it led to many fun moments.
As a result, the cast members gradually reveal their true feelings. Some confess love for the first time while others face emotional hurdles and shed tears. The production team carefully captured these changes. Lifelong singles’ romantic attempts are awkward and unpredictable. They hesitate because they are unsure which words might hurt and even when they want to approach someone, they are often a step late. 'Better Late Than Single' presents these raw emotions authentically on screen.
The Spark Makers also empathized deeply with the participants. Car, the Garden recalled that it reminded him of his clumsy first love and even remembered telling small lies to make a good impression. Lee Eun Ji said she thought of times when she would get angry, throw tantrums, or cling desperately. Seeing the participants happy with just a little attention made her realize that this is what lifelong singles’ love looks like.
Kang Han Na laughed and said some participants even talked about getting married later. Their pure hearts made her think that she was like that once too.
Director Won Seung Jae concluded that what they prepared is not just “Spark” but the entire process of first love. He asked viewers to watch and support the lifelong singles taking their first steps. 'Better Late Than Single' will release episodes 1 to 3 on the 8th, episodes 4 to 6 on the 15th, episodes 7 and 8 on the 22nd, and episodes 9 and 10 on the 29th.
What sets this show apart from other dating reality programs is the presence of the Spark Makers. Their direct involvement is key. They regularly meet with participants, understand their personalities, and provide tailored advice and feedback.
Lee Eun Ji shared that it was rewarding to guide someone and watch them grow. Sometimes, the filming felt like a parent-teacher meeting. The participants felt a bit like her children or younger siblings. Their honest but spicy feedback made it even more special.
Car, the Garden added that he is usually not good at giving dating advice but since he started dating late too, he could relate. One participant works at an arms company and is the first in a dating show to have a voracious appetite. He asked viewers to pay attention.
