The court appointed lawyer for Kim So Young, who has been indicted in a suspected serial drug related murder case, has expressed intent to resign just days after her indictment.
According to reports, the public defender submitted a request for resignation to the court on March 16, six days after Kim was formally charged and detained for trial.

Under criminal procedure rules, courts assign public defenders to defendants who cannot secure private legal representation. However, resignation requires court approval, and if accepted, a new public defender will be appointed.
The first trial for Kim is scheduled for April 9 at the Seoul Northern District Court. Prosecutors previously charged her with murder, aggravated assault, and violations of drug control laws.

Police are also continuing to investigate additional victims. So far, three more individuals have been identified with similar cases and booked on injury related charges.
In one instance, a man in his 30s reportedly lost consciousness after consuming a hangover relief drink provided by Kim at a karaoke bar in Seoul. Another victim collapsed after meeting her at a restaurant. Forensic analysis has confirmed the presence of substances consistent with those found in earlier victims.
