YES24, one of South Korea’s leading online bookstores and ticketing platforms, has unveiled a comprehensive compensation plan after a ransomware attack caused a complete service outage lasting five days. The company confirmed on June 17 that all members would receive a 5,000 KRW (about $3.65) YES24 gift voucher and a 30-day free pass to its subscription service, Crema Club.
In an official press release, YES24 stated, “We deeply apologize for the inconvenience and concern caused by the recent service disruption. This compensation package is designed to offer tangible support to all customers who experienced both direct and indirect inconveniences as a result of the incident.”
The 30-day Crema Club voucher will be distributed by June 27 and can be used without registering a payment method or signing up for a subscription. Existing Crema Club members can also apply the benefit, and those on the 99-plan will receive the same 30-day benefit. However, users subscribed through bundled services with other platforms will be given separate guidance regarding compensation.
In addition to the base compensation for all users, YES24 will also issue one free shipping coupon to every member who made an online purchase within the past year, and an additional 5,000 KRW (about $3.65) voucher specifically for eBook purchases to customers who bought digital books during the same period.
The service disruption, which began on June 9, was caused by a ransomware attack that paralyzed YES24’s platform operations, affecting not only book orders and eBook access but also concert and fan event ticketing. As a result, several major entertainment events, including early ticket sales for artists such as Park Bo Gum, ATEEZ, B.I, and ENHYPEN, were postponed.
“We are painfully aware of the significant disruption this incident has caused to your daily routines, including book purchases, digital reading, and concert ticket reservations,” YES24 said. “We offer our sincerest apologies to all affected customers and partners and are fully committed to resolving this issue and strengthening our service security to restore your trust.”
