Former footballer-turned-broadcaster Ahn Jung Hwan donated his entire YouTube earnings, totaling 436 million KRW (approximately 320,000 USD), explaining that he wanted to support young people facing financial hardship.
On April 11, the official social media account of tvN’s entertainment program 'You Quiz on the Block' shared Ahn Jung Hwan’s appearance on the show, where he revealed the reason behind donating all of his YouTube revenue.
Ahn Jung Hwan explained that his original intention for starting YouTube was not commercial gain, but a form of talent-sharing. He said, “When I first started YouTube, my goal was to share what I could with children, as long as my body allowed it, without drawing attention.”
He added that as his channel grew, he naturally began thinking about how to help young people in difficult environments. “I started wondering if I could help kids in challenging situations, and that’s how it developed into what it is now,” he said.
Responding to Yoo Jae Suk’s comment that most of his donations appeared to go to youth-related organisations, Ahn Jung Hwan explained that many of his friends, juniors, and seniors work as football coaches, and he has seen firsthand the financial difficulties young players face.
“Football requires a lot of money,” he said. “I didn’t grow up particularly well-off either, so I thought it would be meaningful to help.” He added that what began as small acts of support gradually developed into a consistent pattern of giving.
