Junsu (XIA) has successfully wrapped his first performance in the musical ‘Death Note’, drawing a full house as he joins the production during the latter half of its fourth season.
On the 10th, Junsu took the stage for the first time this season as L, marking his return to the role. Since the musical’s Korean premiere in 2015, he has participated in every season of the production, making him the only actor to appear across all four seasons. Although he joined the cast toward the end of the run, the performance featuring him sold out completely.

The musical ‘Death Note’ is based on the popular Japanese manga of the same name. The story follows a psychological battle between genius high school student Light Yagami, who obtains the supernatural notebook known as the Death Note, and the mysterious detective L, who pursues him. With its intense storyline exploring the boundaries of justice and evil, powerful musical numbers, and fast paced scene transitions, the production has continued to find success in Korea’s licensed musical market.
Following the performance, Junsu shared his thoughts through social media. He wrote, “I successfully finished my first performance of ‘Death Note’ today. I’m grateful that it ended without any major mistakes.” He continued, “The energy this production brings is still special. It’s an honor to participate again.”
Junsu also added that preparing for the role continues to be a meaningful challenge. “Balancing a character that requires restrained charisma with such high tension isn’t easy, but it’s a rewarding challenge,” he said. “I plan to keep discovering new details throughout the remaining performances.”
In an earlier interview video, Junsu also expressed his deep affection for the production, saying he has watched the musical evolve and grow since its creation.
For this season, Junsu faces off on stage with actors Kyuhyun, Lim Kyu Hyung, and Ko Eun Sung, who portray Light Yagami. His portrayal of L, known for its restrained charisma, sharp deduction skills, and distinctive rhythm, has been praised for becoming even more refined with each season.
Junsu named “Where Is Justice” as his favorite number in the musical, explaining that although L appears later in the story, the song represents a symbolic moment in the show and is one he always prepares with special care.
The production company OD Company stated, “Junsu is an actor who symbolizes ‘Death Note.’ His participation is further elevating the intensity of the performances in the latter half of the season.”
The musical ‘Death Note’ will run through May 10 at the D Cube Link Art Center in Sindorim, Seoul.
