The 'Boyfriend on Demand' series starring Jisoo of BLACKPINK and singer actor Seo In Guk is reportedly being watched illegally in China.
On March 17th KST, professor Seo Kyoung Duk of Sungshin Women’s University shared the issue through his Facebook account. He revealed that a review page for the series had been created on China’s largest review platform, with around 7,000 users participating in the rating and about 3,500 reviews posted as of that day.
The professor noted that Netflix is not officially available in China, suggesting that viewers likely watched the drama through illegal streaming before leaving reviews.
According to Netflix data, 'Boyfriend on Demand' ranked No. 4 in the Global Weekly Top 10 Non English TV Shows just three days after its release. The series also entered the Top 10 charts in 34 countries, including Singapore, Hong Kong, Mexico, Indonesia, Brazil, and Chile, quickly attracting global viewers.
Seo criticized the situation, saying illegal streaming has become common in China and urging Chinese authorities to take stronger measures against such practices.
He previously raised similar concerns in December when some Chinese internet users were found reviewing the Netflix series Culinary Class Wars Season 2 despite the platform not being officially accessible in the country.
