The original series ‘Great Escape,’ which moved from tvN to streaming platform TVING, is set to return with a new season.
According to OSEN on February 26, TVING’s new variety show ‘Great Escape’ will officially begin production and filming this year, marking its sixth season. Actor Yeo Jin Goo, who enlisted in the military last year after being selected for KATUSA service, will naturally step down from the cast. His departure has sparked curiosity over potential changes among the remaining cast members.
TVING has confirmed the production of ‘Great Escape Season 6,' and it is expected that director Lee Woo Hyung, who led Season 5 titled ‘The Great Escape: The Story,’ will return as the main director. The previous season featured personalities including Kang Ho Dong, Kim Dong Hyun, Yoo Byung Jae, Go Kyung Pyo, Baekhyun, and Yeo Jin Goo. While Yeo Jin Goo will be absent due to his military service, discussions are reportedly ongoing regarding the participation of the other celebrities.
OSEN also reported that several celebrities have received offers and are currently reviewing the possibility of joining, leaving fans eager to see whether the full lineup from Season 5 will return or if there will be new changes.
First premiered in 2018, ‘Great Escape’ is an adventure-variety program set across time-transcending stages. The show gained acclaim for realistically portraying escape-room challenges in a variety format under the direction of PD Jung Jong Yeon, who previously found success with ‘The Genius’ series. Within just three years, the series had produced four seasons, building a dedicated fanbase.
After PD Jung Jong Yeon departed from CJ ENM, the series was temporarily halted. However, it was revived last July on TVING (rather than tvN) under a new format titled ‘Great Escape: The Story,’ achieving first place for four consecutive weeks in weekly paid subscriptions.
