Ifunanya Nwangene, a singer who rose to public attention as a contestant on 'The Voice Nigeria Season 3', has tragically passed away at the age of 26 after being bitten by a venomous snake.
According to BBC Africa, Nwangene was bitten while asleep at her home in Abuja on January 31 (local time). A member of her choir stated that she experienced severe pain while half-asleep, and two snakes were later discovered inside the house.
After the incident, Nwangene was taken to a nearby clinic, but reportedly did not receive timely treatment due to the unavailability of anti-venom. She later succumbed to the bite.
News of her sudden death has prompted an outpouring of grief across the Nigerian music community. Nwangene was known for her passion and dedication, having spent long hours in the studio recording new music just days before her passing. She was also preparing for her first solo concert, scheduled for 2026.
Producer T-Brass, who previously worked with Nwangene, paid tribute by saying, “Her voice and energy brought healing and inspiration. She was an irreplaceable presence in the Nigerian music scene.”
Meanwhile, experts advise that snakes typically react to movement and perceived threats. In the event of an encounter, they recommend remaining as still as possible and slowly backing away once a safe distance can be maintained.
