IU and Byeon Woo Seok have delivered a special Lunar New Year surprise for viewers.
Set to premiere this April, MBC’s new Friday–Saturday drama ‘Perfect Crown’ is set in a 21st century constitutional monarchy in Korea. The story follows a wealthy chaebol heiress who seems to have everything except noble status, and a king’s son who possesses royal blood yet cannot claim anything as his own. Their romance unfolds as they challenge social boundaries and forge their own destinies.
The pairing of IU, a versatile all rounder who has long captivated audiences (playing Sung Hee Joo), and Byeon Woo Seok, widely recognized as one of Korea’s hottest rising stars (playing Grand Prince Ian), has already positioned the series as one of the most anticipated dramas of 2026. In celebration of Lunar New Year, the two actors released a special holiday greeting video, drawing even more attention to ‘Perfect Crown’.
In the newly revealed clip, IU and Byeon Woo Seok showcase their heart fluttering chemistry as the on screen royal couple in a modern constitutional monarchy. Their warm smiles, reminiscent of a grand prince and his wife offering New Year’s greetings to the nation, create a pleasant and festive atmosphere.
IU, who portrays Sung Hee Joo, a chaebol heiress blessed with beauty, intelligence, and business acumen but born without noble status, shared a witty and heartfelt message. “In 2026, I hope you are filled with boundless energy like a tireless horse, with a strong body and a strong heart throughout the year,” she said, cleverly referencing the Year of the Red Horse.
Byeon Woo Seok, who plays Grand Prince Ian, the king’s second son who must conceal much of himself despite his striking looks and charisma, also extended his wishes. “I hope 2026 will be filled with laughter and happiness for you and your families,” he said warmly, offering viewers his sincere hopes for a joyful new year.
The two concluded together, “We will be greeting you this April with ‘Perfect Crown’ so please wait just a little longer. Happy New Year.”
