Son Ye Jin shared her thoughts ahead of her highly anticipated return in 'The Scandal,' describing the challenge of maintaining beauty as “a very difficult thing” while teasing a refined portrayal of traditional Korean aesthetics.
On January 21, the Netflix 'Next on Netflix 2026 Korea' showcase was held at a hotel in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo gu, Seoul. The annual event unveiled Netflix Korea’s content strategy and lineup for 2026, bringing together creators and stars from upcoming series, films, and variety programs.
The event was led by Kang Dong Han, Vice President of Netflix Korea Content. Senior and executive directors, including Bae Jong Byung, Kim Tae Won, and Yoo Gi Hwan, also took the stage to introduce the overall creative direction and lineup for the year.
Actors from major upcoming Netflix projects appeared at the showcase to discuss their works, including Jeon Do Yeon from 'Possible Love,' Nam Joo Hyuk from 'The East Palace,' Son Ye Jin from 'The Scandal,' Park Eun Bin from 'The Wonder Fools,' and Ahn Sung Jae from 'Culinary Class Wars.'
Returning to the screen through 'The Scandal,' Son Ye Jin spoke about what global audiences can look forward to in the series. She said viewers will encounter traditional Korean elements such as hanbok and hanok, adding that while recent historical dramas tend to emphasize flashy and visually striking imagery, 'The Scandal' takes a different approach.
“We tried to express the beauty of restraint and negative space based on historical research,” she explained. “We focused on subdued colors, composed visuals, and delicately capturing the synesthetic sense of Korean beauty. Global audiences will be able to see the beauty of the Joseon era in a new way.”
'The Scandal' is a Netflix series adapted from the 2003 film 'Untold Scandal,' and stars Son Ye Jin alongside Ji Chang Wook and Nana. The project has already drawn significant attention as Son Ye Jin’s return to the historical genre, with expectations high for its refined storytelling and visual elegance.
