Actor Kwon Sang Woo issued a public apology following controversy over his appearance on a YouTube variety show, where some viewers felt he appeared excessively intoxicated during filming.
On January 19, Kwon Sang Woo appeared as a guest on the YouTube channel Zzanbro, hosted by Shin Dong Yup, alongside Moon Chae Won and P.O. The guests joined the program to promote their newly released film 'Heartman: Rock and Love,' which premiered on January 14.
During the broadcast, Kwon Sang Woo openly expressed his affection for the film while drinking alcohol. At one point, he recreated a pose reminiscent of his past work 'Once Upon a Time in High School,' leading to a lighthearted mishap that drew laughter on set. As the episode progressed, his intoxication became more apparent, with Kwon repeatedly emphasizing his love for the film, making hand-heart gestures, and showing high-energy behavior toward the other guests.
He also joked with P.O., asking for his phone number and commenting on his cuteness, while engaging in playful physical gestures. When Kwon remarked that he hadn’t expected to get so drunk, Shin Dong Yup jokingly responded that he had anticipated it the moment Kwon began drinking quickly.
Kwon later quipped that he believed honesty was better even when drunk, asking the production team to “edit it well,” prompting laughter from those present. However, after the video was released, some viewers criticized the appearance, saying they felt uncomfortable watching a broadcast featuring a visibly intoxicated guest.
In response, Kwon Sang Woo personally addressed the issue through a comment on the video. He wrote, “Hello, this is Kwon Sang Woo. I sincerely apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable because I was too drunk.” He added, “I genuinely filmed 'Zzanbro' with sincerity. Please view it kindly. I drank too quickly even though I have a low tolerance because of my deep affection for the film. I am currently abstaining from alcohol.”
The production team pinned Kwon’s comment at the top of the video. Many netizens responded positively, leaving supportive messages such as “It’s okay,” “You can tell he was trying his best,” and “It felt more human than exaggerated variety show behavior,” offering encouragement rather than criticism.
