Actor Hong Jong Hyun has shared his thoughts on joining Channel A’s new weekend drama 'I Got Pregnant' midway through production, replacing actor Yoon Ji On, who exited the project following a drunk driving incident.
The drama’s production presentation was held on the afternoon of the 13th at The Link Hotel in Sindorim, Seoul. Director Kim Jin Sung, along with actors Choi Jin Hyuk, Oh Yeon Seo, Hong Jong Hyun, and Kim Dasom, attended the event.
Speaking candidly, Hong said, “It would be a lie to say I didn’t feel pressured. I worried a lot about whether I might cause trouble for the production.” He continued, “Even though my part isn’t overwhelmingly large, I had such good memories filming with Yeon Seo and the director before that I’d thought, ‘If there’s another chance, I’d like to work together again.’ When this situation came up, I questioned whether it was right to be ambitious. But after meeting the director, I came to the conclusion that it was something worth taking on.”
He added, “All I could do was prepare as hard as possible within the time I was given. When I arrived on set, everyone really helped me. Even staff and actors who weren’t scheduled to film came to greet me. They were so considerate, worried I might have trouble adjusting, that I was able to do even better than I’d prepared for.”
Director Kim Jin Sung described the casting change as an unexpected variable turned opportunity. “It was completely unforeseen, so we decided to treat it as a chance to turn crisis into opportunity,” he said. “In the past, we’d talked about wanting to film a romance together someday, and I felt this was an opportunity given by fate. It may have been an unreasonable request, but I asked Hong Jong Hyun. I told him it would be meaningful if we could overcome a crisis together as a shared memory. I’m grateful he accepted, and I truly believe it led to a better environment and higher-quality result.”

Hong also spoke about taking on a role that contrasts sharply with his previous work, where he portrayed a psychopath. “Minwook is a warm-hearted character—kind, considerate, dependable, and someone who takes good care of the people around him,” he explained. “That alone places him at the complete opposite end of the spectrum from my last role. With that understanding, acting on set didn’t feel especially difficult. I think it’s because the other actors supported me so much. Honestly, it felt nice to laugh again on set and perform something warm. I filmed in a really good mood.”
'I Got Pregnant' is a reverse-track romantic comedy about a man and a woman who swear off marriage in this lifetime, only to have their lives turned upside down after a one-night mistake. The drama premieres on January 17.
