Basketball player Lee Kwan Hee personally apologized to broadcaster Hong Jin Kyung following controversy over remarks that were widely criticized as disrespectful. Hong Jin Kyung accepted the apology with grace, drawing praise for her warm and generous response.
On January 31, Hong Jin Kyung shared screenshots of text messages exchanged between her and Lee Kwan Hee on social media, along with the hashtags “#SinglesInferno #ApologyInferno.” In the messages, Lee expressed deep regret, writing, “You’re someone I truly like and respect as an older sister, and I’m sorry that my mistake created this controversy. I was trying to be funny, but I think my words may have hurt you. I’m reflecting a lot.” He added, “I can handle criticism directed at me, but I never wanted you to feel hurt. I’m sincerely sorry again.”
Hong Jin Kyung responded in a lighthearted and reassuring manner. She wrote, “You already called yesterday and now you’re texting again. That’s enough apologizing. I make plenty of slip ups while broadcasting too. It’s okay.” She continued playfully, “Now hurry and come on ‘zzin_genius’ to teach me basketball. No more apologies.”
Lee later sent another message expressing gratitude, saying he was thankful she accepted his apology with such an open heart and told her to reach out anytime if she needed anything. The issue began after Lee Kwan Hee uploaded a review video of Netflix’s dating reality show 'Single's Inferno' on his YouTube channel on January 27. While discussing the program, he made comments about Hong Jin Kyung, one of the MCs, suggesting that she might not know much about dating yet gives advice on it. He also said that while he understood the other MCs, he was unsure about Hong Jin Kyung.
Some viewers criticized the remarks as careless and rude, and the backlash quickly spread online. As the controversy grew, Lee made the video private and reportedly reached out to Hong Jin Kyung directly to apologize. With Hong Jin Kyung publicly sharing their exchange and showing that she accepted his apology, the situation now appears to have settled on a positive note.
